Default NJ Bear Season!

NJ DEP Commissioner Bob Martin today approved a Comprehensive Black Bear Management Policy that would include the state's first black bear hunt since 2005. The policy also includes public education, research, bear habitat analysis and protection, non-lethal bear management techniques and enhanced efforts to keep human food sources, especially household trash, away from bears to limit troubling bear-human encounters.

To view the DEP news release concerning the policy visit http://www.nj.gov/dep/newsrel/2010/10_0072.htm on the DEP Web site; to review the policy itself, visit: http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/bearpolicy10.htm on the Division of Fish and Wildlife Website.

For tips on proper garbage management and coexisting with bears, visit http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/bearfacts_avoid.htm , also on the DFW site.

To hunt bears in NJ you must attend a seminar. See:

I'm sure that over the past several years with no bear hunting you'll find alot POed residents. Find some of the local POed landowners.
Wouldn't mind getting a bear crew together and drive.

Looking to team up?...I am in. I have very little experience wtih bear hunting, but would love to learn and help people get one, or have a chance at one myself...either way it would be exciting!

The crew I hunt with we do nothing, but drives. Mostly all swamps. Very tiring, but we all shooting starts it's action packed. It's not exactly like deer hunting. If you want get numbers ya gotta drive then. However, I do know 2 guys that have some awsome spot. The literally go to the same tree every year. The past three years between the two guys they have put 4 bear down. Hard to find those spots though.

Cool...I used to hunt delaware state forest in PA for deer beer with my dad and some of his friends... we used to go up end of november into december. My dad killed a 368lb beer up there and another friend killed 250lb. thats what we did as well...just grabbed a compus and walked through swamps...it was fun, but I only went for beer twice and personally never saw one...i did see a good one the week before during buck week really cool expereince since it was my first and last beer sighting in the wild...sounds like you have a crew, but if you are coming to NJ and can squeeze another guy in...I would love to run around the woods with you.

Went to class and got my ticket, now it's just a matter of getting the lottery pick and I'm going bear hunting in NJ. Even if I don't see a bear I'm going to have fun.
