pheasants today.

Hit Assunpink WMA this afternoon for some pheasant. surprised at the lack of hunters. got my limit of a cockbird and hen in about an hour. missed a hen (actually two together) dog did her job, i missed one an tried for the second- 2nd barrell didn't fire?. Dog did a great job on her first day out this year. her feet were a little tender (nothing but duckhunting so far this year):).

saw about 5 birds total. heard a few shots in the distance. I'm definitely gonna stick to afternoon this year. don't like getting peppered.

I went there as well, from about 1 - 3 PM. Saw three. Two were flushed by other hunters and flew over my field but too far off to shoot. Got one. I agree, there were few hunters there and I did not hear much shooting, except from the range.

There is one fiels near the parking lot at the lake that has very tall greass. it looks perfect, with great cover, but almost too thick. That where I got a nice rooster, but it was almost impossible to find after it crash landed.

IS there any good hunting at Assunpinck west of the Turnpike? I was on the east side today.

I've only hunted the east side. I've been happy with the few spots I stick to. Always seem to find at least one bird even if its in the thick stuff.

Yeah I'd be lost without my lab, Cali. She puts em up and brings em back!
