C bar Z Outfitters out of Trinidad, Co might be worth checking out. I only turkey hunted with him for one day He says he has good elk huntin'. I know it's at more reasonable prices than most outfitters. Larry is just a average working guy trying to make a living like most of us, and he has the outfitting biz on the side. It's NOT remote wilderness rocky mt huntin', but it's elk huntin'. Tell him I said hi.

Don't overlook Utah, NM or Az for elk. Really big bulls have been coming out of Utah. Alot of Az and NM don't have the severe winters some other elk states have. Most Ut and NM elk hunts aren't cheap though. Good luck!

Hey Ole 20-
You forgot to include in your comment that this guy paid $150,000.00 for this hunting permit and then hired a stable of guides from an outfitter that went all over the state almost finding the largest bull that they could.

You seem like you feel this guy did not earn this bull? Why? & here is a quote from the link.....
"All the other permitted hunters - archery, rifle and most of the muzzleloaders - had a crack at that bull," Karpowitz said. "A lot of other people knew it was there and they all looked for it."
Austad hunted with MossBack guides for 12 days in early September before leaving due to other obligations. He managed one shot at the "Spider bull" during that time. A Mossback guide spotted the bull, alive and well, on Sept. 28, two days before Austad was scheduled to return. Early on Sept. 30, Austad dropped the bull with one shot from a rifle he designed himself.

I got really lucky and drew a 2006 Utah archery elk tag (after the season had already started) in just three years after one of only two nonresident tags given out in that whole unit the size of NJ turned in his tag because he was unable to hunt at that time. Since I drew that tag I must wait until 2012 to apply for another elk tag in Utah.
It took me 13 years to draw a Arizona elk tag that I just drew last year. I have not drawn a New Mexico tag since 2001. These coveted tags are not easy to draw and they cost a good bit of money thru the years just to apply for but if you get one you will have one hell of a hunt if you know what you are doing.
