There is no spring bear hunts in Maine. One spring about twenty years ago at a check in station some guys were playing catch with a small bear one of them had shot. What they did not know a high ranking senator's wife was at the station. She went home to hubby and the next year there was no spring bear hunting in Maine.

Thanks for the info. I was told they had a spring season but never checked for myself. Looks like Idaho.

I go up to Portage Maine each year for the first week of bear season. I have been using Hunters Point Guide Service. He isn't the cheapest but I think he is the best. I have a cabin rented and deposit in for next year. Ive dealt with a few other outfitters in the area and had a few horrible experiences. With this guy, you will see bears. It's up to you if you choose to take them. He specializes in archery hunts but you can use whatever you want. I took a 400+ pounder two years ago with a handgun. My 13 year old son took a 200+ last year with a slug gun. If you are interested. Let me know. I have six guys committed for next year. A few others crying poor right now.

There is spring bear hunting in Maine on Passamaquoddy Indian land. Do a google search for Maine Spring Bear Hunts and you will find a bunch of outfitters doing the hunts.

The guide I use is $1575.00. He's not the cheapest but I think he is well worth it. You will have an active stand. There's nothing like having an adult black bear materialize 15 yards away from you. Your heart will be pumping for sure.
There are cheaper guides out there but I had a few real bad experiences with the cheap ones. If you are interested let me know. I'll get you the details.

Do a google search for Maine Spring Bear Hunts and you will find a bunch of outfitters doing the hunts.I stand corrected.I did not know that the Indians had been given the ok to start spring bear up again. It had been close for over twenty years .I hope the game commission does not open it for the rest of the state. There is so much hunting pressure on bear up there now I do not think the bear population could take it.

Send me some info. I'd rather drive to Maine than fly to Idaho.

If you want to go about 6 hours north of Maine, I went to place in New Bruswick Canada named The Miramichi inn. Place was awesome, lobster, steak and halibut dinners with excellent bear hunting as well. I ended up shooting a small bear as it was my first time out and the last day. I hunted earlier in the season as well which was 1st or 2nd week in May. well worth it!! They def have the bear stats wrong though...my name is on there and I shot that bear in 2001...s key. The bear was more like 110 lb...

I've been hunting with Down East Outfitters for several years now. Awesome outfitter, great camp, great bear sucess! website is www.downeast-outfitters.com (http://www.downeast-outfitters.com) ask for Stan. 207-356-5312 you won't be dissapointed. Down East Outfitters is located in Roque Bluffs on the rugged Maine coast. Go there in august or september and take home a bunch of lobsters with you.
