Hunted from 8 until 11:30, the last hour it poured and didn't see a bird...Covered all of our usual spots and came up well short. Didn't seem like many birds were released, but every year is different i guess. Didn't hear many shots at all, except for one volley fire...(12 at once ) close by. Theres always next weekend. It felt good to get out and walk through miles of god's good lands!

I actually did good today at one of the local wma's. I thought it seemed like they put more birds out then usual. I had my limit with in 20 minutes.

We did well.... We were out in Spruce Run and as always it was packed, there were some scumbags that started shooting at 715 am ... we waited until 800 and hunted until 1030 then I had to work... we got our four... it was a very nice morning not to hot not to cold perfect... we missed the rain..... Im going again tomorrow morning to get the left overs, cant wait .....

Got out to look for some leftovers after the crowds were gone. Managed two nice roosters. question: Does it count as a bagged bird if your dog catches some one elses cripple? The original hunter was nowhere in sight, so I kinda felt like I could shoot another one, not sure though, so I passed up a hen bird on the way to the truck. Should I have tried to bag another?

went for the leftovers this afternoon... got a healthy dose of chilly air.... walked around and rumaged through the thick stuff but nothing... it was still a beautiful afternoon in the woods... we did see a dead bear near by the spruce run lake... does anyone know if I should report that to a game warden... there werent any around to speak with, if anyone knows what i should do let me know.... going again tommorrow morning..

I pretty sure once you have two birds in the bag its over for you.... i would check into that a little further..... good luck

Despite the warm weather, we had a good opening day at our local WMA. Word has it that 15 birds went up all at the same time a few hundred yards where we started. Of course, 14 of the 15 were likely missed even though there were about 50 shots taken. We quickly located the left overs and had our bag limit early. The good news: this is the first year I wasn't peppered with bird shot on the opening day. A hundered or so hunters on a few acres of land is never a good combination. I think everyone left early because of the heat.

Yes it counts toward your bag limit. One year on opening day my dog caught two cripples in a matter a 25min:mad:. I was done and didn't even fire a shot. Told the warden what happened, because he was standing at my truck because I was parked near a safety zone:huh:, and he just laughed and said don't let me see your truck in here this afternoon:(

I didn't go last sat. With the rut in full swing and the striper bite on fire the birds will have to wait:D. I went striper fishing in the AM and got rained out for my PM hunt. Oh well. But I usually hunt tuckahoe.

I hit Whittingham yesterday. The dog found two hens and three cock birds. The birds did nothing but run, run, run. Every one had a set of track shoes on.

I was looking up the amount of birds they are putting out this year. The numbers seem to be way down!

Last thanksgiving, they put something like 700 birds out in bevans, this year is like a normal saturday, 400.

We found zero on opening day and hunted hard. Anybody else see this difference so far?
