How much can a deer eat in one day? I have bin baiting one spot in south nj for little over three week, they have eaten two bins of sweets two 100lbs bags of corn and about 200lbs of apples. It started out with a few deer. Know the area is ripped up and they are eating 50 to 80lbs a day. So my question is how many deer would it take to eat over 1000lbs in that little time ?

ZERO DEER !!!!!!!!!!! I wait till you bring it in then i scoop it up to use at my stands  !!!!!!!!!!!!

If you do kill a deer its gonna be an EXPENSIVE deer All that $ on Bait bin apples $60 bin of potatos $60 100lb corn $15-$20 liscence $28 buck permit $28

You better get to harvesting i would cut back to a 5gal. bucket of bait a day break the habit of having food all the time to eat between dusk and dawn.

I dont have the time to run down every day. I get down there in 4 to 5 days and when I get to the bait pile deer are always there no matter what time it is.

I did that last year. No friggin way Im doing that with the price of corn. I put my feeder on set to about 10 seconds. Its enough to get them coming everyday. MY feeder goes off at noon and they are still hitting it every few hours - and I know this cbc I have my cam on the feeder..., I guess theye are looking for the next feed.

since I dont need to shoot 40 deer, Im not going to feed them

Nothing but deer , there is alot of suger sand around my bait that was moss until the deer ripped it up. Now there is a 20 yard area nothing but sand. And in that area you cant drop dime with out hitting a track. I was there after a heave overnight rain , it looked like a pig pen . Tracks , scrapes and rubs , all by 10am.

I dont think its healthy for the deer herd to put out that much bait for to long and have a lot of deer in it all the time is spreads disease and infection that could spread throughout the whole herd they could also get an STD:D

Bait piles makes it easy for CWD to spread. 2 deer coming in contact mouth to mouth same area is much more likly at a bait pile. And lets see it's been found in NY and WV. What state is inbetween those two states?

From what I have read, adult deer eat between 5 and 7lbs of food a day. You can only guess how much of that is from your bait.

BTV (bluetonge virus) is mainly transmitted by a midge, but can also be transmitted sexually. Much like EHD (I experienced that, it suxs for the deer real shame:nuts:) once the first frost comes along it helps with the midges. Also on a side note. We did some work on this when the EHD epidemic was going on in SW PA. We think (not a 100%, we didn't have enough data to conclude) much of the EHD virus was because of poor water quality and the midges where breeding more that summer. Usually the deer population bounces right back though. We've never had a problem (yet thank God) yet, that we had to take an extreme measures to ensure the health of the deer heard. I got a brother in Greene County who lost a couple really nice buck because of the EHD that year. A 150 class 10pt and a 130 class 8pt that I know of. They were pissed. They barely shot any buck on their families land that year cause they where worried about having good buck around next year.
