Looking to do an elk hunt this coming season, looking for a legit elk 350 and up. Looking at the new mexico area. Never been for elk, so I'm looking for a guided hunt. I know I can get monster elk in other states, just not sure of areas, guides, etc. I don't care much about food and accommodations. My priority is to hunt hard and bag a monster elk. Anyone have any input? Thanks in advance.

You're setting the bar pretty high if you never elk hunted before and want a 350 class bull. There's alot more to the hunt than just tape measuring a bull.
Take a good look at 300 class bulls, they are a real nice represntative of the species and a great looking trophy. Nothing to look down at with 4 foot long beams and 6 pts per side.
I know of a great hunting operation in northern NM that borders NRA Whittington Center and very close to the Vermejo Ranch. Always over 100% opportunity for 280 to 340 class bulls. The rut hunt will set you back $9k with guaranteed tag/no draw.

I appreciate the response Ron, but yea, the bar is set high. If you pick the right guide in the right area at the right time of year there's no reason it can't be done. I have little desire to chase a smaller bull or expect anything less than my goal simply because it's my first elk hunt. No guarantees to get the one you're after, it's called hunting after all, but I want to stack all the cards in my favor. I enjoy every aspect of the hunt, but at the end I want the trophy I set out for.

Good response Ron, you are a wise and well seasoned hunter obviously. Good luck in the draws this year.
