Don't know if you're looking new or used but do a little homework, read some hunting mags etc... You don't need the top of the line this or that, just what you can afford. However that doesn't mean that you are necessarliy going to get years of good servie out of cheap stuff. One thing I wouldn't skimp on is arrows and your broadheads. Another thing to study up on is that alot of the top bow makers also make products under a different name ie; Hoyt makes Reflex, Bowtech makes Diamond and I'm sure there are others. You can save some money there as well. Just do your research (looks like you're starting), read up on sites like this and talk to some of your buddies.

Glen, It all depends on how much you want to spend and how much you are going to hunt, You could spend $1200-$1500 on a complete set-up of a Hoyt,Mathews,Bowtech, or 700-800 on a less expensive PSE or a Bear.

You should get the bow, rest (whisker bisquit), i prefer a string loop, release, arrows, field points for practice and broadhead's, quiver, case, target (the block), arm guard to protect your forearm while shooting although with proper shooting mechanics you should not need one, kisser button, peep sight, bow sight. i am sure i missed a few things but that is the basic's.
