Looks like the Rockport Game Farm took a big hit in last weeks snow fall.Pens collapsed, birds died and or got out.Not good for NJ pheasant stocking this year.

I got an email from NJ fish and wildlife about that. My question is if they can't provide the same amount of birds why should we pay the full $40. It already seems like they don't stock enough. I usually only hunt the weekdays early morning, because of work and it's safer, now they're cutting back on weekdays. I understand and it's unfortunate but 40$ is not really peanuts for some people. Just my thoughts.....
Any truth to the rumor that NJ will stock Chukar this year, I'd like to see that.

The market value of a pheasent is about 19 bucks. there will be two birds out there with your name on them for sure. If 40 bucks is to much you really should not be hunting.

I can swing the $40, thank God, that's not the point. I know a few people that aren't Hunting this year because they're laid off/unemployed. I'm just saying that is it fair to ask for the same money when your giving less. It's a shame that Rockport pens were destroyed with the storm but let's not cry for Rockport Farms. I'm sure they're still gonna turn a profit this year.

A profit? You're way off base. they are lucky to break even each year because we know they won't get a penny from the state.

R&R you make a good point. I'm sure the state of NJ won't give them a penny. It's a shame. I do bow hunt!! Got my doe! No buck yet. To much work not enough hunting!!

It really sucks that i hear hunters tiring their backs on rockport when they needs us the most. Hunters should be banning together & helping ,w/ donations,to see that this never happens again.

It's my understanding that Rockport is funded by the purchase of pheasant stamps and only supplies birds to the NJ F&G for stocking. They also give tours to school kids, etc, which may bring in revenue.Either way,it's a bad situation.

8 guys 16 birds in 1 hour in 2 fields. People pay more than $40 for hunts like that in the Dakotas.

Slowest opener for me in awhile, missed my only shot, saw acouple of others, twice as many people than I can remember.Next field over had birds everywhere.Seemed liked the birds where dumped in only afew spots, usually most of the fields have them, not today. No complaints here though. My young dogs did great, flushed afew.Down where we hunt, the fields are really getting over grown, need to be burnt or cut in the spring.Tough to hunt in waist high weeds all day and the woods are getting vined up as well.Nice to be out either way.

Close up Rock Port toooo much snow in north jersey. Raise them birds down here in so jersey. Plenty of state land next to the del bay with all that warm air blowing off her. Our lakes hardly freez up down here.

This is NJ your talking about, that would make too much sense. Its been offered numerous times to have the inmates at Bayside State Prison raise the birds. The state would provide the materials for the pens and the chicks. The farm on the prison has enough feed. And obviously you won't find cheaper labor. But again that makes WAY TOO MUCH SENSE. This is NJ and they can't do anything that would save money.
