I have never hunted the Outer Banks, but have hunted the Lake Mattamuskeet area, which is close. January is the month where the area will be holding wintering waterfowl, and the birds will be more wary than they would earlier. The area holds a lot of waterfowl. If you get a little wind or weather while you are there you should do well. You are probably going to have a choice of puddle ducks, sea ducks and/or divers, or swans (if you have permit). You should have a great time. I would go for a minimum of three days to give yourself the best chance of having one really good day, weather wise. Good luck!

Wow Dennie! North Carolina, I believe that is the only state you are allowed to hunt swans. You might want to look into that, a swan would make a heck of a mount.
