Just conducted my own test using a new Montec G5 and a beat up ThunderHead Broadhead.
I wanted to see which one would penatrate a 2X4 better.
The montec went all the way in to the point where all the blades where in the wood. But it did not pop through to the other side.
The thunderhead did the same where all the blades just made it into the wood. BUT because the thunderhead is longer, about 1/4" of the point was sticking through.
So there you go. a cheap old stand by worked just as well as the very expensive latest technology.
Oh, and when I got the thunderhead out of the wood, non of the blades were damaged.

The hole in this deer is from a G5 Montec, first I've shot with them. I used Thunderhead 100's for a long time, great broadheads but none made an entry like this. Used the Tekan mechanical heads for a few years with no real complaints other than the blades would always open in the quiver or when bumped on a tree etc.

By the way how did the arrows fare in the test? What were they?

I use the Carbon express Kevlar arrows. Nothing happend at all to the arrows. These arrows are so worth the money.

The Montecs are 100gr. The arrow was a Carbon Express Terminator I just started using them this year.

I read all the reviews on Cabelas about bad blood trails with the Montecs. i purchased them anyway because they look awsome.
Shot two deer and the blood trails where horrible.. Also read the alot of Montec guys went to the 4 blade slick tricks and loved them. Said they shot like field tips. Going to try them next..
I guess it doesn't really matter what you use if you hit them right.

I've killed 4 deer in a row with the Montec's. You need to sharpen them to get the blood trails your looking for. I lost the first deer I shot with them. Since then, I started putting some time in resharpening them after tune/shooting them. Big difference.
I did however, pick up some NAP hellrazor's today. Flew as good if not BETTER than the Montec's. When I put them to the stone afterwards, they sharpened up much faster than the G5's. I hunted with them tonite but no shot. I like the 1 1/8" cut. Just a little larger than the 1 1/16" cut of the Montec's. Hopefully I'll get a shot at another doe to test them out!

I read a ton of good reviews about the 4 blade slick tricks. They say they fly great and make massive holes. I'll let you know.
