Hey folks-

After a long hiatus from hunting I picked it back up last year. I mostly hunted muzzleloader and shotgun but did some bowhunting as well. I needed more arrows and the shop I went to suggested that I switch from aluminum to carbon... which was unheard of to me previously because the price was so high, but I was surprised to see they were quite comparable. So, I made the switch.

Now, I'm not a great shot, but I would say 5/6 arrow with field points are in a pretty tight group. It's something I am still working on but I am happy with my progress.

My problem is that I am shooting my old fixed broadheads, 125 grain I believe, and I cannot shoot a decent group with them. It's not that the group is off one way or the other, it is that I cannot get consistent. This is just not good. Is it me?

I'd rather not go buy new broadheads but I will if I need to. I read another thread below with a similar problem... but I'm really not that familiar and need to broken down. What is papersighting?

Are there any other weight tips I should consider? Non-fixed heads? I unfortunately live in center city and don't have too much range time so the simpler the better. I'll probably be in Cape May county next month to set myself up better.

When in cape may go to fletchers corner on rt 47. The owners name is guy he can paper tune for you. He is a very nice and knowledgable guy.

Take a look on youtube. There's plenty of information that will be able to help you paper tune your bow.

its probably tuning but just to check your old broadheads. keep them on the shaft and put them vertical on a smooth surface like a board. spin the shaft fast and let go for a sec like a spinning top. if the point stays in the same spot on the board and theres no erratic movement those broadheads should be straight and will work fine for ya

Depending on the broad heads they could be "planeing" in other words catching the wind like the wings of a plane and it will be impossible to fix the only fix is new broad heads. Goto mechanical the fly more true like field tips

you can try putting a hellical on your fletchings it will cause the arrow to spin more and helps prevent planing

Are your field points 125gr as well?

I weigh my tips, feild and braodheads to make sure they are all the same.

When i used my PSE, i could just about split arrows with the aluminum and 125 gr tips. I went to carbon (not cheap ones) and they were all over the place, i tried different weight tips and still no good, i think they were too fast at short range, so i went back to the good old aluminum ones and that solved my problem and never looked back. And i always shoot fixed broadheads. The smaller ones work the best for me.

Now on my crossbow, i'm using Cabelas carbon arrows and they are deadly. and i use 100 grain on these.

Good Luck.:)

Sounds good bud. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Aluminum arrows and carbon arrows do the same thing. Good luck bud hope your arrow finds its mark this season.
