Have a chance at the 16 inch version of the 1894. Will be a Pa. hunting gun. Brush gun. I like it to death cause it`s so little (Red Ryder size) almost cute. But worried about she can do at 100 yards compared to the longer barreled 1894.
Let me have it.:D.
Thank`s.

My Speer #10 reloading manual shows you can get up to 1800 fps with a 240 gr. jacketed bullet in an 18.5" bbl. Expect a 300-400 fps boost with your rifle over what you'd get with a handgun chambered in the same cartridge. Your Marlin should be more than adequate out to 100 yds. Handy to carry too.

I'm sure you could get those velocities with a good hard cast bullet too.

They made a 16 1/4" barrel for a bit. They are hard to find today. Model 1984P ("P" for ported)

seeing this thread made me want to take mine out and give her a nice coat of oil. Thanks:D lol

Reel,

Here's mine. I forget but I believe the serial dates to the late 70's. I have it written down would have to check again. It is a pre-cross bolt safety. Not to fond of the cross bolt safties. Mine is a 20" bbl. I mostly use it during bear season as a stander. Prob would be great without the scope as a driving gun, but why do that when I carry my pistol.
I'm a big fan of my 1894. I really enjoy using the firearm hunting. I've never had any problems untill last year. The screw that is at the end of my lever was loose and caused a jam. Just make sure that all screws are tight. even the srew that hold the shel flap or follower tight. The only thing I changed on this firearm was I had a barrel clamp and a sling stud put on the stock so I could use a sling while hunting. Enjoy your 1894. They are great lever guns. I would love to find one in 357mag.

Best of luck!!!

Since your not that far from me we should go shooting some 44mag some time. Let me know.

Sweet rifle Adam. I like the squared-loop lever on the carbines.

A .44 mag out of a pistol is one thing, out of a rifle it makes a 30-30 look like an elephant gun.. Past 75 yards I wouldn't use it.. Loses energy fast out at 100 or more, not to mention drops like a stone. Good treestand/close range gun...

The .44 Magnum out of a longer barreled rifle is not too shabby compared to the .30-30. Neither round will win an award for shooting flat. Comparison from Hornady's ballistic calculator.

I got it ! Going out to DCFS this morning.I gave it the once over and did find some loose screws ,gave it a little lock tight. I was very concerned about the dreaded Marlin jam. Praying that this one does not give me the same problem.
Gun measures 33 inches over all, 8 in the tube and 1 in the chamber.
I am getting 1.5 inch groups at 100 with the carbine using 240 XTP 12 grns of long shot powder.
Hope the new gun likes it.
I`ll see how I do with the irons to day.
AC where you shoot ? And thanks for the pic`s.
PA Grizz, yes I just checked ,16 inch ported.
