Im going to be shooting 125 nap spitfires from my excalibur vortex which shoot 330fps. question is for anyone who has practiced with them before. Does it mess the broadhead up when shooting into the target? Have you ever found them to shoot differently then the field tips? Also what type of target are you shooting at,brand?

I tried a few different mechanicals. For me the NAP Spitfires are the best. I been using them on my V Bow as well for the last 15 years.
They will most definitely open when hitting your target and pulling them back thru bends the blades as well as the grove and retaining spring get mugged up with target foam. Once the spring and blades bend thier useless cause you can't fold them back.
NAP has practice blades try them

But actually I use old Spitfire ferralls with NO blades in them to practice. However just using standard field tips will do the job. Spitfires fly just like field tips.

I do every once in a while shoot the Spitfires with blades that have been shot thru deer or ground in pass threws just to make sure

like ridge said they get messed up in targets sometimes because of the aluminum lock. it will sometimes catch and get ripped up. i have only shot them into solid foam targets however. now i only use my field tips to practice because they group identically. i shoot a brand new spitfire once to make sure it shoots straight and that is my hunting broadhead.also i should add i use a compound and go with the regular spitfires for more penetration. but with a crossbow i would go with the bigger diameter blades cause of the higher velocity. you need a good pass through with these spitfires or else your blood trail will be poor

Doublefeed,

I shoot the same set up. Excal. Vortex. Spitfire 125's. Shot 3 deer with it last year. Never had a problem. I also use Spitfire 100's on my compound. Again no issues with them not flying right. I have shot many deer and two bears (one was a 400lb P&Y) with no problems. I was never a big fan of mechanicals, but Spitfires work great! Just put it in the right spot...

Good Luck

I have to agree, spitfires are pretty darn good mechanicals. I shot a deer last year with the xbow and spitfires and the entry and exit channels were pretty impressive. Of course, it doesn't matter what you are using if you don't put it in the boiler room. I've been using shockwaves for the past 3 years for my coumpound and they work well. Once I get through the last of them, I'll probably switch to spitfires.
