Stafford is quicker then most police departments. Go to the police station, stop at the fish tank and ask clerk for paper work, take it home fill it out bring back with money order, get fingerprinted and hand it in. should have it within 30 to 90 days.... Stafford has a full time firearms clerk. Thats why there faster. Most departments have a detective handle it!!

I owuld have to pull the statute again but I believe they have 30 days to respond to your application, although... there are few places that will.

It's been a few years and I got mine at my small hometown PD and it took just 1 week shy of 6months! I also applied for a handgun permit while I was at it and thought that may have been the hold up. I'm pretty sure you can go to a State PD as well as your local I have heard that's a little faster.

In the good old state of NJ you need it for any gun besides a muzzleloader. It's a major pain in the as$ if you try to buy something out of state as well. And if you want a handgun you have to apply for a permit and they're only good for so long, I think it's 90 days. And of course there's a fee for that too. I wonder why people buy without permits??????????????????????????

Yep, by law, they must have it done in thirty days.... But they never do. Here in Tabernacle, it took three months for me, and nine months for my buddy....... Yep, it sucks

Dude, You need a permit to buy a pellet gun. You certainly need one to purchase a muzzleloader. Then you need in your possesion a valid NJ rifle permit to actually use your ML at any state range.

Yep, you need it for a lot of things. We live in the Socialist Republic of New Jersey, remember? Many stores also require that same FID card if you are purchasing gunpowder for reloading. Yet go across two state lines and they never ask for it for similar purchases. There was a time too when they used to "card" you if you purchased hollowpoint bullets. I don't know if they do anymore since I haven't bought any in years. But they did. I remember once many years back when Remington put a small dimple on the nose of their famed Slugger 12 ga. rifled lead slug. The guy at ROS needed my FID card to log me in their book because he claimed they were "hollowpoints".

People in this state have gone daft thanks to the politicians.

Swab, you do NOT need a firearm card to buy a muzzleloader. It is considered a primative weapon just like a bow and arrow. I bought mine with nothing more than my drivers liscense.

Call Butch's gun shop in Vineland, NJ. He will be able to tell you exactly what you need and don't need to buy a gun. Or probably any other gun shop. I got my ID card in about 5 months the first time and then I had to change my address, that took 3 weeks.

I went to the State Police Barracks yesterday to get a change of address on my card. I had to fill out the paper work for another background check and pay a $18.00 money order. The Trooper that took my information said it could take 2-3 months just for a change of address.

JJV79, I was with a buddy while he was buying a Muzzle Loader at Dicks and his address did not match. They would not allow him to buy the gun. In the state of New Jersey you do need a firearms ID card to purchase a muzzle loader you just dont need to have a NCIC check.

I sold muzzleloaders at Dick's. You cannot even look at one in New Jersey without the Firearms I.D. Card. There is no NICS check needed, so we could sell them when NICs was closed. The paperwork still has to be done, just no NICS.

My address changed from a town to a township with same zip for 911 purposes, no street address change. $18 and three months, more fingerprints..etc.

New Jersey makes it difficult to know the law, thereby setting up unsuspecting people so as to add to the state coffers.
