I just can't seem to bring myself to hunt when it's this windy outside. It often swirls around too much and puts the deer on red alert. I would hate to bust a stand just because I forced myself to go. But man....I'm itchin'. What's your opinion on hunting in wind...say over 20mph:huh:. I know some will say they have killed giant bucks in the wind, but is it worth taking off early and going:confused:

Personally, IMO I don't bowhunt past 15mph. I think they are just a lil weary in that much wind. I've gone out in 20mph before and still seen deer, but they where looking over their shoulders every other second. Now gun hunting I'll go out in 20mph and plus. I won't sit on the stand though. I'll just very very very slowly slip through the woods. In 20mph and plus their hearing, sight, and smell is dampend. Just move slow so you see them before they detect you.

Yeah, gun hunting i'll go whenever possible. I can just slip down the street to a place and just walk some nice woods roads. But stand hunting.... I don't know. Plus I primarily hunt hang ons that I put a lot of time scouting and setting up. If I bummp a deer on the road no big deal. If I get winded at one of my stand locations.....very big deal!

hunted bucks county in the heavy winds. the ground lifted up over me and blew away (a few times) and i still saw deer, it just depends what kind of location your hunting. i was just in a field edge with a crossbow but did not make a kill. i think wind is all relative to the situation.

I hunt in the wind, sometimes its the only chance I get, so I've got to take it. Saturday I went out in the gale force wind and rain and walked the woods. I ended up walking up on deer on three ocasions, seeing a total of four does. Three of them were within 15 yards. I also saw a really big tree come down. It's always been my belief that when the wind starts howling, the deer for the most part are going to find some cover and sit tight. When hunting the wind I get to walking, slowly. I try to concentrate on thick cover and hillsides out of the wind. People kill deer every year in bad weather, but only the guys who brave the elements.

Any day that I don't have to be at work or have family obligations, I will be hunting or fishing. I don't care what the weather is. I try to make the most of the situation. I usually still hunt into the wind.

Same here. I hunt when I can hunt. If you wait for perfect conditions, the season will pass you by. Especially now. The deer are getting anxious.

They have their arms folded and are tapping their feet. Just waiting to be shot. :D
