Scott,
Congrats on a great deer.

Not only is it a nice deer, but the way you got him will be a story and memory for a life time.

Now that I already got my buck with a bow, what am I going to do with all those .308 Win cases? :D

that first picture really shows off the size.

I think it's my favorite one.

I talked to the taxidermist today as he was caping it out. It's going to require a jumbo form. That will make it look really regal on the wall. A big rack is nice, but the huge neck and shoulders make it look like a whole different animal. I can't wait to get that sucker back!!!!

Just curious - what was his neck measurement?

I agree with you - large deer and necks are impressive. I have a couple that have been in the 29-30" range where they would measure for the form and unfortunately they must have had shrinkage when mounted as while they still look good not quite what I remembered or what the pics showed.

I put a tape to it and it was 29" at the skinniest part of the neck. I don't know what that really means but figured I'd measure out of curiousity.

Fellow Buck Barner Joe D got a similar bodied buck a couple of years ago and the mount looks great. The taxidermist said it would be similar. His turned out like this:

Great deer...congrats. Did you know that deer was in the area?

No. But I did see some nice ones in a nearby field at night. I was gambling on the fact that the bucks would be close to where the does spend their evenings. I was hoping that at least one of those bucks was bedded close enough to hear my rattling horns. He must have been pretty close. It only took him about 3 minutes to show up.

Just goes to show, there are more bucks than the ones you see. They're sneaky suckers. :D
