What are some of your "taboo's" in the treestand

i for one smoke, not alot, hardly ever during bow season and usually during the "slower times" during rifle

Also drink coffe during that later parts of the season

have killed deer with a smoke in one hand and a cup of coffe between my knees

about 10 years ago, during rifile season. I had a thermas filled with french vanella coffie. MY feet were freezin cold so i tryed to change my socks while up in the stand, as luck would have it, I kicked my thermas of the stand and it fell 20' and busted open on a rock. At that point i thought my day was ruied. No coffie, feet were frozen, smells like french vanella all around my stand:huh:. Well about 20min or so goes by and here comes some thrashin through the woods. First two were doe and the third, all i see was the rack, nice eight point. put the gun up and droped-em like a light switch 30yrds from my stand.

So ya just never know. Iam usally still as could be and have actully had a tweety bird land on my knee before. Last year up in new york i was out just before dusk in full head to toe camo. And had a great horned owl try to attack me, within intchs of diggin his talons in my head. I had to swat my rifle at him and take my head gear off so he knew what i was:eek:. i guess with only seeing a small area of my face he thought i was a small rabbit with it being twilight out. Needless to say i ran like a girl:D

YES NO BANNAS anyway deer have no clue what a cigarette is or coffee or bug spray for that matter they know human scent and will b gone some of these are actullt a couirosity scent .its a good argument deer know our scent and react accordingly. but if they never ever smelled say like a banna lol or smoke just say they will come and see what it is you know like bait that isnt natural in the middle of a swamp. until they smell you with the new smell it may work to your advantage

I have no problem peeing near my stand. Deer don't care. I've also had deer walk right passed a gut pile from the day before.

Pee goes in the bottle usally. But my buddie droped a buck 30ft from my gut pile, where i killed a buck the day before.

Vanilla is considered a "curiousity" scent
never used it myself but given its sweet strong smell i can imagine why deer would come check it out

You guys have to be hunting from a box or a blind because you will not get away with that in nj with all the hunting preasure around here

I'm not a scent fanatic, but you should try to keep any foreign smells to a minimum especially in archery where you need them to come close for a shot. Deer are very curious animals, but get busted once by a mature deer and you can forget about seeing him/her for awhile.

i hunt zone 65 winslow which is brutal with smart deer but ive peed from my stand almost daily with no problems. and vanilla is great for a bait pile of corn since corn doesnt have strong smell i use vanilla it gets there attention with in days and even after it rains i can still smell it.... i put it on like wawa napkins and hang them on branches above pile. try it . and yes that is where the wawa napkins go
