Just picked one up. Smooth bore with a scope.
Who's shooting what and how's it grouping?
Don't need the lecture on every gun being different. I'm looking for a consistent performer from different people so I don't have to buy a bunch of different brands. Hope to just buy one, pattern it and have good results. If not, I'll move to the next popular and pattern that.

Before the rules with using slugs came out I was using 2 3/4'' brenneke rottweil slugs out of my 24'' smoothbore barrel.

I have had the best luck with Lightfields in a smoothbore.

Brenneke Rottweilers shot great out of my 500 smoothbore. They cost a little more, but I'be never had a deer go more than 5 feet when getting hit.
Also just good ole Remington sluggers shot great out of mine also. Kinda like the power and damage the Brennekes do though.
Best of luck in your search.

Definitly I have had great performance out of my 500 smooth bore with plain old remmington sluggers 2 3/4. I killed a nice buck this year with it and was very pleased when he didn't take another step after the shot. Groups are great at 50 yards where all holes touch each other. They are the cheapest slugs to shoot and pattern well in my gun, I'm lovin it.:D

Yea baby !!! Rems or federal had good grouping ..shot a deer in the neck deadly accurate .she dropped like a golf ball ,never moved!!! Model 500 at 35 yrs old. And still shoots like a charm. 24 improved cyl. 28inch mod 32inch steelshot barrels all of that didn't cost me over 225. Dollars !!!

I shoot 2 3/4" Remington Buckhammer reduced recoil slugs in my 500 - plenty of killing power and/or bloodtrail for any NJ Whitetail and much easier on your shoulder. Group an honest 4-5" at 75 yards in a scoped 18 1/2" smoothbore - again plenty of accuracy for what you're shooting at without the recoil.
