Gearing up for my first turkey hunt. I'm using a compond bow. Need to buy a blind and some decoys. From what I have read I need a blind with a black interior and large enough to draw comfortably. Don't want to be cheap, but something for around 100 dollars? What if I dont want to use a blind and just sit camo-ed, is that possible? Anybody use those blow up decoys. How many decoys do you really need? Just looking for some suggestions. Thanks!

With a bow it will be very difficult to draw and not be seen w/o a blind. A lot easier with a gun because you dont have to move nearly as much.
As for the decoy question, they work sometimes, depends on a lot though. My buddy had an inflatable one that lasted until we went through a patch of cedars and shredded it. The rubber/plastic ones may be bulkier, but more durable.
If you heart is set on killing one with a bow, i would buy a blind and set a couple of decoys out in front of it.
Their eyesight is UNBELIEVABLE!...as you will find out!....good luck to you!:)

^ spot on. you might want to check out an ameristep doghouse blind. it has plenty of room to draw, has a black interior, comes with a comfy seat, and is around 100 bucks. also when hunting from a black interior blind you want to wear all black so you blend in. good luck and let us know how you do

I've never shot one with a bow but I did miss I'd tell you not to shoot at their head cuz they move way to much its a lot more fun without a blind I usally back my bow down to 45lbs so I can draw and hold it before the turks get in front of me and as for decoys I usally spread out 3 hens and a pretty boy about 10 yrds away it will be a lot easier with a sceond person to call unless you are great with mouth calls

I killed one (double beard) with a bow, without a blind using only a single hen decoy, mouth call and no blind... It was my biggest accomplishment with a bow for sure.
I had one last year come in 25 yards open woods with big trees , NO decoy and me kneeling behind a bis tree... I waited and waited then drew undetected and shot low:(
Good luck its worth it, although you will get busted a lot by hens.... SIT STILL until the final moment. Hell I won't make eye contact cause I swear thats what them beety eyed bastards see....lol

Keep the suggestions comin', I need all the help I can get. It sounds like I'm giving myself a great challenge. But that's how I like to live. BTW, I've never hunted before this years winter bow, 55 years old, but I know that I have patience! Next adventure, find turkey! I applied for 22, my bro has a place in Milmay and I used to see loads of turkey on the peoples yards as I drove to his house. Thanks guys for the help.

I do it with no blind. The best thing to do is work out!! Practice holding your bow at full draw. But that will be easier in a blind.
As for decoys somebody already mentioned about the blow up ones ripping. Don't get the foam ones either they are no good. They get creases and they look bad!! I am using these rubber ones now. I will post the name later. They are great!! I have 2 hens a gobbler and a Jake. I prefer the 2 hens and a Jake. Do NOT get a pretty boy strutting decoy if you are on Public ground. I like to put them out in front of me when I start off. If I hear a bird from my right I will move my decoys to the eight then I will move to the right another 50 yards infront of them. This way if he holds up he will be right on top of me. I have had it work many times when I do that situation but put somebody to the left of the decoys 50 more yards behind them with a call. It works great!!
Good luck let us know how you do.

I have a set of blow up deocoys that I have been using for years. I believe they were made by hidden valley which I think is no longer in business and they work great. The finish is alot better then some others I've tried.

If you can (don't do it on public land) leave the bind out and brush it in good. Harvesting a gobbler with a bow is very tough. Using decoys will be a big advantage considering they will put their focus on the dek giving you maybe an extra advantage on drawing back. Your right about having a blind with a black interior, but also you yourself wear black in the blind and don't have any of the windows in the back of the blind open. You can get silhouetted. Good luck:thup:
