I have seen so many the past few years! I have alot of friends that have shot them with ear tags, notched ears and tatoos on there lips! Not sure how true it is but a friend of a friend shot one with an ear tag. They called the number. The yote came from Texas and was purchased by an insurance company. As I said not sure how true that is but I have seen notched ears and tatoo on there lips. Any insite??

I have seen the tracks in Winslow. But has anybody seen them release the coyotes?

No in no way shape or form saw any ear tags/notched/tatooed yotes. This dumb story comes up every year with the same facts....NONE. If you think insurance companies are stocking yotes you should be allowed to own a gun.

No offense at all r&r but I have seen the notched ears and tattoo on lips. But heard about the ear tags so not sure how true that one was.

Let me geuss:confused: you have no pics. I bet the state has no record of you ever even shooting a yote.

I should prob correct what I wrote on the top. I have heard of the tagged yote. Saw 1 with tattoo on lip with notched ear. The other with notched ear.
I never shot at one! Seen many if them but usually not hunting.

For the love of God chief, NOBODY IS STOCKING YOTES. Somebody is pulling your leg & making you look like a coot.
Lets for4 a second think....
we all know that stocking yotes is illegal & the state org would be slammed if they were caught....
that being said if somebody still stocked them anyway do you really think they would have them marked with a yote hunting season?

How long have they been here?
My dad said when he was younger there was no coyotes. But the same with turkeys. Idk maybe they are just having a huge comeback? There is another thread on here I think from 08. About this exact thing. Can maybe somebody find it and link it to this thread??

there would be too much lieability to release yotes who would be blamed if something happened

calm down guys, he was just curious about something and wanted some input from others. negative feedback wasnt necessary
Who knows what the truth is. It's like someone saying they saw a cougar in the woods. I heard there were a few sightings both in Jersey and Delaware. Some of which were by veteran hunters. If they know what they saw then so be it, why lie about it. It's pretty hard to confuse a cougar with a dog or deer or coyote. So it probably was a cougar.

I have said before and still stand by it, I will pay 100.00 for a yote fresh killed or snared with a tag that can be proved it was taken in nj. I have been a trapper since I was 10 that is 42 years ago I started. I know alot of trappers, good yote men the best in the state and none of those have told me about a tag.
The first coyote killed in NJ that was confirmed was in Lambertville in the year 1939 the second confirmed killed yote was in cape may in 1949.
the philly zoo bought and sold yote pups to/from folks in south jersey 4 different counties up till the 50 I believe.
I believe we have 2 ways the yote came. one from the north as in the post in the other section. and sec I believe fox men back in the early days 1900 brought yotes in to train their fox dogs. I am told yotes have a stronger scent for the pups to follow. this has been told to me from some dog men.
I would love to catch a yote with a tag it would go on the wall. LOL
when dealing with wildlife population densities there is a point at which the population grows fast, once it hits that number. in other words the natural mortality rate can not keep up with the population growth.
that is what has happened to the yote. the habitat is so good that pup mortality is low. the females feed well all winter the pups are strong. coupled with yotes living with in housing areas the natural dangers are not there. they learn to live around people with out people really knowing they are there. they adapt very fast and do not make the same mistake twice.

please do not take what I posted as putting you down. As a state trapping instructor I hear this all the time for years now. I have seen records and talked to many as the the reality of this. there just is no proof. I am amazed on how stories are started and take off based on nothing but some one saying it.
I know that some aco's caught a coyote and turned it loose at another spot, and I am sure that also has happened in other cases. where a yote was captured and relocated

Remember if you post a pic of a coyote tagged or tattoo and say it is jersey, there will be a some one investigating! it is a public forum. and a tag or to can be traced.

til next year Joe, till next year, LOL
At the new place yesterday, the caretaker;s son tried running one off on a snowmobile in the early morning out in the pasture. Dog turned on him. They were pretty shaken. Lone dog. They were calling me by 0800. Kinda ballsy I thought. He ended up turning the machine around to get away from him. His dog got in a fight with a couple about three weeks back. Had quite a few cuts around the face and head. Big domestic thankfully. was able to hold his own. Not used to this behavior. Started setting today.

if you are still under ice and snow, it could get worst up there. food is hard to come by. domestic animals are easy.
scary crap when they turn on humans.
i will be setting for them in a few weeks. trying for that mink and a few coon. then the line comes down for a week.
need some pond rat footage also. most of the ice is off the ponds down here. lakes are still hard, edges are open.
upbowhunter and his kid just set their first "real" line today. i may run with them one day this week. hope to see tony with his first snared coon or fox.

Back to the eastern, when I get back, I have to go down a few miles they are really starting to take the deer. and standing their ground with the farm dogs I am told. some boys was goose hunting yeasterday i think and the yote charged in on the dekes till it saw them standing there LOL

Haha let's put a nasty coon in there blinds lol he already had it happen once LOL and the same day a buck came out of the laurels and attacked him LOL good times!!!!!
A friend of mine had a yote attack his turkey decoy. And it was true the decoy was scratchEd and torn up. But he did not shoot cause he was to busy trying to get the camra and it saw him and took off.
That is definitely true. He is the smartest hunter and outdoorsmen I know!!

i have had them take out turkey decoys. i have had them take the gobbler we had coming in.
problem is, coyote season is closed during turkey.
we need a incidental season. no active calling, but can be taken while legally hunting for ANY other animal. turkey, woodchuck, EARLY bow season.
i had to let one walk during the early bow season this season. k9's don't open up until the "regular" fall bow season.
sucks. we need some rule changes.

You are right joe but is not going to happen till the state see numbers taken. deer hunters are shooting but not reporting. they need more that 169 coyotes killed in a season to open it.
ub1243
02-07-2011, 09:35 PM
deer hunters are shooting but not reporting
like the one on the other site, found dead, shot but left.
no phone call on that one, for sure.
guys, report the coyote kills. it takes 2 minutes.
it isn't big brother keeping tabs on you. they are not looking for your hunting spot. they will not drop off ear tagged coyotes in your area.
we need reported kills. when our kill number goes up, that reflects a increase in population. only then will they make season changes.
if the reported numbers are low, we must not have a problem.
robhunt
02-07-2011, 10:22 PM
Yeah you have a good point ub. The two minutes it takes you to make the call could save you from getting in trouble if you were to get caught not calling it in. And I no every guy on here would like to shoot one but you won't be able to freely during turkey season due to the fact the state does not think there is that many.
