I do know that my early 60's 760 carbine likes the Sierra 180 gr. roundnose ahead of 4064 very well. But I've never hunted deer with that bullet. I load 150 gr. bullets with either 3031 or 4064 and they shoot well. This little carbine also likes the Speer 125 gr. TNT bullet ahead of W748.

Grizz has the load. I used it in my '06s for years until I went back to 308. Maybe if I unpack a NIB A-series Gamemaster I'll go there again. Or trade it for a Sako A-7.

I also shoot 56gr of IMR4350 but I'm pushing the 150GR bulistic tip Nosler partition. They shoot extreamly tight groups at 100 yrds. Also knocks the snot right out of deer size game. My friend borrowed my bolt action last year and shot a bear with this load at 50yrds. The bear went in the 300lb club and it only took 3 steps after being shot before it rolled over. He said the guide couldn't beleave it and wanted to know what the load was that he was shooting. LOL Just be sure to shoot this load from a bolt action as it is a little hot for a semi auto. :thup:Not to say that it can't handle it as the book shows up to 58gr with this bullet, I've just never tested it in one. 2850fps gives enough energy for my needs.

I push a 150 grain Barnes X Triple Shock when I use the 30-06 for deer. For a non-premium bullet, I may go to 165 grain.

I don't subscribe to the "brush-busting" bullets theory so I use the same loads whether I'm in thick or open country.

I like my deer to be hit through the lungs with 3000 or fps to turn their insides into jelly. :D
