Just got off the phone with a buddy of mine, hit a big 6 in Maskill Mills Wma and could not find it, said he found about 9" of his arrow with broadhead attached and full of blood. I'm heading down in morning to help in search.

Found him About 400 yards from where he was hit, only found blood for the first 50 yards, he made it across a swamp and ended in an open field.
158lb 8point.

Great job searchin' him out. Sounds like a nice buck! Post up some pics...

There was a deer shot at our camp last year rifle season, opening day, that we never found. Absolutely sucks knowing that an animal was wounded and not recovered. That's the ugly side of deer hunting.

Pretty good recovery after 350 yards of no blood.

Awsome job:thup:. Tracking and knowing where a wounded deer will travel in your area makes all the difference. Mug shots??

Good Job, no great job. Finding a deer that went that far is no easy task. Way to be persistant.

Great job and congrats to your friend on the recovery:thup: On another note and it's a shame to even have to say it but.... Next time I wouldn't be so specific about where the deer was shot. Someone very well could have went out there tonight if you guys had decided to wait until morning.

Didn't even think about that, still believe there is honor among sportsman, but my stolen treestand last year is making me rethink that.

That piece is actually close to home and that's what got me thinking about it. I hunt down the road from there from time to time and have had some stands stolen there. I bass fish back where your at and wondered if anyone was hunting that piece.

I used to hunt off the power lines years ago. I killed a couple nice 8 pointers back there! Real good hunting... But since the State released there last copy of the Fish Digest last year advertising that area, everyone and there brother seems to go there now! Gotta check out the inside of that old farm house, I think all the big bucks are hiding out in there... lol... Well congrats to you both for an outstanding tracking mission.

Hey, my buddy Truede told me he posted on here about my buck, so I came on to look around. Buck was down 350 to 400 yards from where I arrowed him. With no blood trail, it was dumb luck that I found him. It was my first buck, so I swore I wasn't going home without him. I zig zagged through the woods for hours. I noticed some turkey buzzards circling in a near-by field and went over to take a look. There he was.

He's nice. I saw some sign from him or something like him down along the edge of the lake a few weeks back.

Nothing wrong with that buck

I had to search myself this year. Shot my career biggest in the pouring rain and could not find blood. Brought my little mutt dog out the next morning and he found him for me. Thanks, Bumpers. :D

There is no sicker feeling for a hunter than loosing your deer.

Or well, missing all together sucks too -- not that I've ever missed... that's just what I've heard. Ha Ha

Well done. Congratulations.

It's a shame we can't use recovery dogs in jersey.

Go small game hunting with the dog. If you happen to find your deer while small game hunting with your dog, that's a bonus. ;)

We used my buddy's dog on a Sunday to track a big 10 pt. my brother hit high on the 1st Saturday evening of bow season in 1999 in NJ....dog came back covered in blood and led us back to the deer that went a good 300 yards after he got just one lung. Without the dog, we'd of likely never found that deer, was thick as heck back there! Use any means possible to find your deer rather than leave it wounded to die a slow death or for the crows! Screw NJ!

I've used my dog to find about 5 deer. If I'm heading back to the cabin to get help, an extra flashlight, etc.... I might as well bring my dog. Hell, he's been in the cabin all day. I'm just taking him out to take a wiz. :D

Yeah, we have a black lab that hasn't lost a deer yet. I was making a point against a stupid law. I will comb the earth for a wounded deer:thup:
