Low Blow.
I was hunting with a couple guys one time when one of the guys sons asked me for help loading his shotgun. Now it isn't exactly hard to figure out how to load a shotgun. Here he had the old paper shells!!!! He was trying to load them in the shot gun and they must of swelled over time and would fit. IMO I don't think he should of ever tried to use that ammo.

Always check your ammo before you load your weapon.

Too many of the modern shotshells today use a steel base that is simply "brass washed." They are susceptible to rust if exposed to prolonged moisture. Premium shotshells with true brass bases work the best in any weather. And if you are a shotshell reloader, premium plastic hulls with brass bases work the best and provide a multitude of quality reloads.

As for paper shells, I still reload them and use them afield. I seem to have amassed a sizeable collection of varous empties over the years. Although, my stock of paper hulls for my 16 ga. have been dwindling since the late 60's. (Paper hulls can be some of the softest shooters too.) Some of my pet shotshell reloads call for light load data in my 16 ga. (7/8 oz. & 1 oz. loads) and these old Federal Monarch's fit the bill for me. I still have a nostalgic affection for them.

Paper shells don't shoot the best with modern guns. The coolest thing I ever shot was an ALL brass shotgun shell. It was buck shot and it kicked so much!! They were really old. I did not want to shoot it off but I would imagine they would be unstable?
I have also seen the brass rim that connects to the shell half missing. It was a winchester AA bird shot.

So did you ever get it out??
Is it logged in the chamber or the action?

Don't shoot best? How so? With modern, quality components they can pattern as well as modern plastic loads. Old factory paper loads w/o the advent of plastic wads or shot sheaths may not pattern as well.

Paper shells can certainly get chewed up in auto-loaders and some pumps when their wax finish wears. And it's true, plastic shells have certainly eclipsed paper shells with their ability to handle multiple reloads and shed, not absorb water; but paper shells are still the "softest" shooting shells in an old or modern gun. I like them too because I have a light 16 ga. double and they work well in that format.

I use these hulls because I still have a copious supply of them, get four or five reloads out of each, and they work very well with 7/8 oz. and 1 oz. reloads using a light charge of Green Dot.

And it's kinda neat knocking down birds with reloads made from old paper shells almost a half century old.

Not sure what type of gun you shoot but both my 12 gauge browning gold and franci 300 can't shoot them. The action tears them to pieces. I had a whole bunch from my great grandpop.
