Had a 4 pt come in under my stand over the weekend at legal shooting time but couldn't see a darn thing so I waited. He came back in and posed a 12 yard shot but I had a hard time deciding to take him or not. He would have been my first archery kill and first buck. My string silencer had got in the way of my peep site so when I finally drew on him I had to let back off and never let the arrow fly.

What is everyones opinion on this. Wait for a better trophy or get the two monkeys off my back and worry about trophys later?

First buck. First archery deer. I would take him. He would be a trophy you'd never forget.

my first deer with the bow and first ever was a button buck last year. i was so excited then but now after seeing numerous bucks i think i never would do that again. but i still have the great memory of the shot he gave me, how long it took to find him(perfect shot but deflected off the ribs and hit liver) and how excited i was. TAKE HIM :shoot:

Take him! Thats a great first deer. I took a spike for meat the first weekend. Unless you have been seeing a big boy and you don't want to spook him. I also switch spots often till the rut. So if you had another spot you could give it a rest for a week or so. Also drag the deer far away before you gut him.

if it wasn't for the 4's and 6's that I've shot in my first 10 years of bow hunting, I would have very few memories.

It took me about 20 small bucks before I wanted to hunt for large bucks.
