Hello everyone, we need help with getting hot water in our camp. We hunt in PA there is no running water or electric. We get water from a local spring (with 5gal. Bottles) and use a generator for power. Right now we heat water on the wood stove and use that for showers and washing dishes. And we just think it time for some luxuries. We checked into electric hot water heaters and the tankless water heater. The problem that keeps coming up is, how do we get pressure to the hot water heater to the shower and sink from the water supply (tank). Some say use a gravity system, other say that the gravity system will not have enough pressure. Some say to use a small pump, but other say using a small pump would just pump the water though the system to fast without getting hot.

well how does it work in normal house? arent they pumped also? maybe a float switch that makes pump come on as water drops? the water in tank should already b hot right? obviously im not into plumbing lol.

How far is the spring and is it uphill from your cabin?
In Maine we found a spring that was about 100yds uphill from the cabin and diverted the flow from the spring into a 250 plastic tank. We then ran a 1" polyline from the tank to the cabin and split it to a cold side and then into a gas hot water heater (used propane).
Never had a problem with pressure and we just let it dribble into the kitchen sink to keep from freezing.
