I actually came close to the same thing happening to me! Had a HUGE bear wondering toward my stand. Came right to my tree and stuck his paw on it. Right then that sent a BIG CHILL straight up my spine! Had my bow aimed at him but surely didn't wanna do that. He backed down then circled around. I realized he was searching for my pack on the ground that had some snacks in it. When he got a wee bit too close to it I banged an arrow on my stand. He stopped, looked right at me, then high tailed it on outta there. WHEW! :please:

Yeah I think I would started making noise the second he was sniffing my stand. Its amazing and scary how easily he climbed up the ladder.

I had a small bear (maybe 1 1/2 yr old) one time walk right to the base of the tree, bluff charged, popping his jaws...Then when he placed his second paw on the same tree I was in, I swirted him with a shot of water from my water squeeze bottle right in his face. Man was he mad!
Took off 25 yds or so and came right back then he and I exchanged the same scenerio again! No BS! Ran again about same distance and then walked around for 5 mins or so until he was bored with the scene and FINALLY left. What a long 5 mins it was! As I was out of water by now but had ammo if needed, but really didn't want to shoot the little guy.

the first thing i think of is that he must have done a nice job setting his stand up! this should be a good lesson on why you should take the time to set your stands up right and make them strong otherwise between him and the bear that was prob close to 700lbs
