Had a friend who just called to tell me he shot a nice 8 last night. The thing is, i've known him for about 10 years and didn't know he bow hunted. When i asked him that, he told me yesterday he was in the garage and saw his old bear whitetail II hangin on the pegs on the wall and he realized he hasn't bowhunted in over 10-12 years. So he takes it off the pegs grabs a few old aluminums and proceeds to shoot a few. I asked him if he checked the bow out before he shot it or just let him fly. He replied no it shot pretty good. He goes to Walmart picks up a bow stamp afew new broadheads and heads off to his rifle stand up on the hill. Sits for a few hours doesn't see anything so he decides to try the new grunt tube he bought while picking up his licsense. Needless to say a big 8 walks right up to the stand and he slips an arrow thru his lungs for a clean kill. Never shot the broadheads he just bought either. I must be doing something wrong. 1000's in equipment shoot year round, 100 of hours scouting and this nimrod walks in and drops a helluva buck. GO FIGURE.:huh:

Seems to happen all the time. Guys who put all the work and effort in struggle and the newbie, clutz, one day wonder or whatever you want to call them shoots these tremendous deer. Beginners luck? Maybe. Maybe we diehards think too much and try too hard for our own good sometimes.

I really started to get into bow hunting when i was at school in West Virginia. I started telling my buddy all about it. His dad owns a big farm and that is where i hunt at home. Well one summer we go out and he buys a bow starts shooting maybe 5 times. The first time he stepped into the woods with a bow he drew on a big 8 pointer but couldn't get a shot. The 2nd time (the next day) he shoots a monster 8 pointer. Perfect shot runs 30 yds and dies. I don't get it.
