got out this morning and after 2 hrs on stand i took a walk
found an area all torn up with rubs. not far from that was a scrape and lickin stick
should i wait till closer to the rut(bow) or should i get in there tomorrow afternoon with blackpowder

They're using it now. Hunt it now. If you wait, they may move on. They could start chasing does and find a new core area. Sounds like the area is hot now. Hunt it.

rubs are usually made in September and they say bucks only visit scrapes at night. Just read an article about a deer farm set up cameras on scrapes on the 5000 acre property. The bucks only visited them at night. The area you are describing sound like there are allot of deer in the area so this should be a great spot to sit, but i would rther sit in an area that has allot of tracks or other sign because the bucks will be chasing the does.

i don't beleive for a minute that bucks only scape at night. i've seen them work scrapes in daylite hours. usually when i'm in a tree off a scrape line sometimes you'll see them tend a scrape. just last week, a friend and myself were checking a area out, and on the way to it we noticed a old scrape, and on the way out, about 1000 am we passed that scrape and it was freshened up . as far as rubs go, they can be made all fall long. i couldn't tell you the numbers of rubs that turn up all during the season, even in december and janurary. haven't you ever shot a deer in december lets say, and there is bark ground into the base of the antlers? i do agree that deer do rub in september but i believe as the rut gets closer they rub more. just my 2 cents. happy hunting
