Tue. while my son & I were out in the woods I noticed that 2 Buck were starting to eye each other up to spar! With the weather today being cold it's going to start real soon! Game on this Sat. I'm really going to start to hunt real hard! I'm hoping to get my son his first real Buck, then it's my turn! He's got his eye on a nice eight that he has been seeing but haven't had a chance to take the shot yet!

I hear you archer, the next few weeks should be interesting. Time to get in the woods as much as possible. Last year it started early in my parts. Good luck to you and your son!

favorite time of year in the woods
but Archer101, not to be a smarta$$$ but temperature actally has a minamal effect on the timing of the rut. Moon phase/estroes(sp) cycle is the biggest factor

Temps. dont have anything to do with the doe going into their estrus cycle....but......it has everything to do with the bucks getting up on thier feet and showing themselves during the pre rut,rut and post rut times...

The main reason the cooler weather helps is when it's hot out like it was last week those deer don't like to move. Now I've seen more deer moving around since the weather has cooled off! This is what I meant by the cooler weather helping.

Oh man I can't wait to be in the stand in the morning!! The rut is mainly effected by light. Not so much moon cycles. The less and less day light available the hormone balence in a does cycle changes till she become in estrus. I know the glad for bucks is in the corner of their eye. I think it is for does aswell. You can also make does go into heat early by controlling the amount of light the deer is exposed too. They have also made bucks grow antlers twice in one year. The just use a room that they can control the light. Kinda makes the deer's brain think otherwise.
