Well gents I figured that I would start this one so we would all know when the migration was coming through. For all the die hard Woodcock hunters. So please post your findings or lack there of here so we all know when to head out with the pups. Include time of day, cover and weather.

Well I hunted yesterday evening with Steve and the boys. We hunted Ticket and Gunner. It was Gunners first outing for woodcock and I was pleased with his work. He worked nice and close and covered all the brush. We were hunting in Game Lands 52 in Lancaster County. We hunted a really nice swamp amongst a large expanse of Poplar and green briar. No birds here as of yet. Hope this cold weather keeps them moving south. Either way it was nice to be out with the boys. I did have to remind Hunter a few times to stay behind the gun, but he was too busy working the dog, so I really cant complain. Nice to see that I will have a dog handler in the family when I get too old for it. Good Luck to all. Oh yeah sorry to the archer that we came up on in the swamp, but hey Woodcock like the swamps just like the deer.

Hunted all day Saturday for them just outside of Wellsbero and didn't have one flush. The same spots where we always shoot them, not one Grouse flush either. Not good:confused:

Only got to hunt for about an hour but no dice in 52 again. I wanted to hunt in Chesco but the truck kept steering to Lancaster County. Either way I worked Stella with her mom Briar tonight. She did well. I was pleased and she will make a fine addition to the Guide Service.

On openning day I hit a spot in Burlington county for just a couple hours. I arrived mid-morning and stayed till lunchtime; one flush, no shot. I talked to a couple guys who said they got a couple earlier in the morning. I hit another spot further north near the central part of NJ last week; nothing. This week, who wants to hunt in 70 degree weather? I'm gonna try a spot tomorrow after it cools off.

Central Jersey on Friday, one flush in 2.5 hours of hunting. I missed, he landed on private land so I couldn't try to flush him again.

It's been pretty bad this year.
