I use a20g for rabbits. 410 doesnt have a ton of range. 12g is ok if you use a lighter duty shell. you dont wanna blow them rabbits apart. If you go with the 12 take a few extra seconds if you can before you pull the trigger. Also, watch what choke you have in the gun too. full choke is too much.

If you are a good shot a 20 is great if not an expert try a 12 with clyinder bore you can shoot them & not blow them up i love this gun.

I used a 12 gauge with a modified choke for years without any problems. Most of our shots are either within 10 yards or running shots in open fields around 30-40 yards. With the close range shots the rabbits are usually just hopping along or paused in some thickets, so its easy to aim for the head. On the longer range shots they are hauling butt through an open field and the 12 gauge is perfect for stopping them. Usually on the longer shots when I get a hit they will roll and break their legs. Sometime they're still alive when you get to them so you have to wring their necks. I always used 2 3/4 high brass shells. If for some reason you get a body shot, after cleaning the rabbit, soak the meat over night in a pot of water with a decent amount of salt and the pellets will rise so you can pick them out with a knife before cooking. This year i'm going to try a 20 to see how i like it.
I thought most guys used a .22 for rabbits and small game.

The best gun......age old question but I would say whatever you shoot the best, I have a old 20g pump gun that has seen soooooo much use in the briar patches (scratches, dents....worn looking!) cylinder bore 26" tube but man she sure puts lead where you want it. I would say lighter the better as you can tote it all day as oppesed to a heavy gun:( remember jumped bunnies are quick and areas they live thick so a quick handiling gun is nice to have. Just my 2cents....bunny huntin is fun !.
