I have been baiting deer for 5 months now.
My plan is this. Keep all the does coming to the the bait and bedding in the area.
By doing this, the bucks will be cruising this area checking out all the does.
Simple right??;)

Simple yet effective. Provided that the does are constantly coming to your bait yes sure. Many people say the key to bagging a good buck during the rut or start of the rut is hunt the does. The bucks are always close by.

Yes and also hunt off the bait pile near the pile so you can catch those big boys crusing around the pile checking for those does. The big boys are a little leary of those piles so try and catch them nearby.

just like when they cruise down wind of doe bedding areas. they will come in down wind to see if any does are close to being ready.
i think they would do the same with bait piles, just cruise down wind. if there are no does ready he'll move on.
but i don't bait so it's just a guess.

i have been baiting deer in the same basic area for about 2 years. in the past i only had button bucks and does come in. just a few months ago i moved it about 20 yards deeper in the woods and this year i have seen numerous bucks on the cuddeback. make sure that it is away from any clearing taht is 500 or so feet away from any road or house. mine is behind a laurel bush and is hard to see.

Good idea. If you have allot of does hanging around - the bucks will follow. I have seen it happen here in PA on my properties. Many does around and I will not shoot any in archery season for the exact reason is that I want as many does around as possible as undisturbed as possible. As time goes on to the rut - more and more bucks start cruising to find the hot does. Buck activity year in and out picks up dramatically near end of October thru November

Yeah I bait in 2 places. Right behind the house and a few hundred yard deeper. Between the 2, I get alot of doe and small buck activity. If this keeps up, it should smell like the "tinks" factory back there next month.:D

Been doing the same also and the key, as mentioned by others, is to hunt down wind of the bait. The big boys know when and where the does are moving and they will parallel the does. They will move in on the doe trails to make scrapes and then back off to parallel them again. They will check the scrapes from down wind and only visit them when they need to freshen them up.
I have used bait to bring deer activity to an area that is better for me to hunt, but not a primary deer area. It seems that once the doe movement is established on a regular basis, the bucks start marking the area.
Well, this is my opinion anyway, half the fun of hunting is trying to figure them out:D

Chris,
I already planted the seed with my wife, I told her that I will be hunting very hard in a few weeks. She understood and said that means she must spend more.
What ever works right???
In 2 days, 50lbs of corn and 20 lbs of apples was gone.
Just dumped an other load.

keep your x-rated posts to yourself joe, planted the seed and dumping another load and all! See your gonna put little joe in my stand! I am siked for the rut, this has already been a year to remember. We think its fun now wait till little joe and hunter hit the woods, my father says that his best day hunting was my first day. I think that will be true for us also. Lets hope Joe jr, and Hunter are better shots than us! The rut is almost here, buck or not Joe, already a great year. As for the shots at your lovely wife, I feel she should spend whatever she needs to!(yes her chilly is that good).
