Does all the meat get donated to the villages? How well do they care for the kills, as far as food not caping/mounting? Looks like that may be on the"Bucket list":). Africa, here I come.

they were verry careful of the mounts and took great care when skinning. as for the meat it belonged to the property owners where i was .they had walk in coolers for the meat .some was used for food the rest was sold for wild game.
in others camp meat was shot for food as well as given to viligers .depends on what country you are in and the setup.i know most places if u shoot an elephant you get the hide, hooves, tuscs and such and all the meat goes to the viligers who come out to butcher it.

I hunted in South Africa this year in the Limpopo region. I agree best hunt I have ever been on. Going back in the future. We hunted with Motsomi Safaris and everything was tops. Went in early April. Saw 3 black mambas, very nasty snakes.. Killed exceptional animals, 52in Kudo, 17 in Blesbuck and I got a 36in Gemsbuck. If you hunt, you have to make it there at least once in your lifetime. I'm hooked. Price was cheaper than a trophy elk hunt in Colorado during the bugle!!!!

I hunted with Motsomi Safaris. Pieter and Ria were tops. You will not find a better hunt for the money they get. You will shoot all mature animals and its still cheaper than a guided elk hunt, plus better food and drinks.

Adam,
I would suggest Mostomi, but they will not take you on a dangerous game hunt until they see you are able to shoot really well. You may have to book a plains game safari first, which I suggest anyway... Get your kudo and gemsbuck and some other trophies, then go for a cat. You may want to take a cape with a bow first. its about 20 g's cheaper... 10,000 for a cape buff hunt.... it gets really expensive...

I saw one time on a hunting show that it was cheaper and easier to get your mounts done there at africa and then have the mount shipped back to you. Verses taking home the cape and having it all done here. I wonder if that is true?
This dream hunt is going to be a long time from now. Just out of college, got a lil lady (oh I know what she wants, hint it sparkles), need a home, basicly need to start my life. So yeah that dream hunt lol is far far far from anytime near soon, awhile, or in distant future. But time will tell.

Charlie,
I paid 4250.00 for an 8 day safari, I shot 6 "trophy" animals, food, full service bar, a Professional Hunter, trackers, skinners and house keeping staff. Unlike Bigolebuck, I didn't get a discount:mad: The camp was beautiful, private rooms, swimming pool. Given the chance to hunt 6 trophy animals for the price of one elk that I may not even get, I'll take the safari every time. A plus too about Africa that folks in the states might like is, if you don't get a shot at a specific animal, you don't pay for that animal (no trophy fee). Never heard of that with a hunt in the states. You should check it out:thup:

Well,
See guides in the US know they can't compare to AFRICA, WHY? Because they don't have enough faith in their capabilities, thus they charge the SH_T out of us, some treat us like SH_T and expect a TIP. I'll spend my money in AFRICA until the WEST and the FAR NORTH understands there is alot of big game out there for less money then what they have to offer. I'm not the only one! I got a neighbor who has spend over 200,000.00 in hunts over the years, put him self in the book more than a few times and he just said the same to me. Think what do you spend on a hunt for moose, elk, hell what does a sheep hunt cost now a days? Where I hunt you can hunt a free ranging Male Lion for 15,000.00. How much is a sheep hunt? Like I said. Someday they will learn, if not, I'll spend my cash where they treat me like a king, not a pay check... You all keep hunting out here! You'll keep my next safari bill cheaper.

If you look into a moose hunt or sheep hunt you'll pay more than that, with a reputable outfitter! So why not hunt ONE OF THE BIG FIVE, where you have a chance of catching a bad one, instead of just hunting an animal. I guess to each his own. Cape Buff is about 8 grand where I hunt. Isn't huntin up in the great north that much now adays for a "DEER"! Like I said Africa is a great spot to hunt for the money and what you get...

Adam,
Safari shouldn't be about the size of the animal, it should be about the experience. I crawled and stalked 600 yards, to get a shot and the damn one I was looking at, it was only 32 inches (male). Not a bad animal but the operator, said he could do better. After we sat there for another 20 mins, my female came out, she was 36 inches, still not huge, but the biggest in the herd and a good repesentative of the species. Same with my impala, great stalk, tons of rams around us, rutting and roaring and fighting, 21 3/4 was the biggest. I was happy. It is about the total package. The time, the PH, the trackers, the whole thing. If I had the money, I'd book today, this time I would make my wife come with. Live like a king and hunt like a mad man for 6 to 31 days. What a blast!

Russ is correct it is about the journey not the destination ! , our first trip was with a less than stellar operator.
bowhunted and took Kudu,Gemsbuk, warthog and vervet monkey.
Monkey mounted lifesize and the gemsbuk being done now as a pedestal.
We then spent 4 great days in Kruger park with a tour guide couple that made us part of their family. way made up for hunting with a greedy,no service outfitter.
Going back in 50 some days to hunt Mr. Spots with a rifle and some PG.
Was to be with bow but surgery prevented that.
Needless to say Africa is a drug and once you go you will always be trying to figure out how to get back.
