Got some rare photos in my email to share and the question was, when this deer grows up would you shoot it? I don't honestly know that I would, but that would depend on how my freezer looked and not the deer itself. :D To each his own, but would you shoot?

That is really cool! I myself probably would not until she got way up in age just becuase it is so unique and there are so many other normal doe or buck running around...it would be exciting to see this rare coloration roaming around. It would be cool to see how it interacts with the heard as it grows.
But if I watched her until she was between 5-7 years old and coming to the end of her life span...I would certainly take her out and do a full body mount or deer rug.

Shoot a melonistic deer? ABSOLUTLY! Actually we have a member here on the barn that has taken a melonistic doe before. I forget the screen name, but The Ridge knows him.
I heard Bucks County PA is number #3 on the list of most melonistic deer. Don't know if it is 100% true though.

It is a recessive trait similair to say a piebald. Recessive traits don't pass easily.

I would let him or her have a chance to try and pass on the recessive trait for a good couple of years and if the opportunity presents its self then do something neat with its hide. It is pretty cool and unique!

sad but true. in 25, it's not a good weekend unless the army screws up hunts for 12 people, shoots 3 buttons and a unlucky doe. then tells everyone how great they are, while sitting in the bar for lunch.
that little deer gets the pass, for a few years.

I'd let it go. Question is, would you shoot another deer that size? I wouldn't. So why shoot that one. If you are hungry for meat, shoot a bigger one.

Most of us eat veal and lamb? I always feel bad though, so I rarely shoot little ones even though they taste sooooo good:)
