I'm looking to go west for a whitetail trip for next year. I was thinking ohio or illinois. It's a driveable distance and has good deer populations. Has anyone been on a hunt out there. I need it to be fully guided as my dad has a lung disease and is handicapped. I want to get him on some big deer before he can no longer hunt. I'd like to go with the bow but would consider a gun hunt. Any info would be helpful.

I went to Illinois last year during the rut and it's not all cut out to be what everyone makes it out to be. I am not saying it was a bad trip but not what I would have expected. Four of us went and two shot decent bucks but bucks that they could have saved 4k on and shot here. I saw in six days of hunting two big shooters so all in all that was good but they had season guides and when I say seasoned I mean just got there one month before I got there. The land was small parcels and it seemed we always hunted right on the property lines and they practice strict quality control but i don't understand that because if your neighbor doesn't practice then a parcel is no good. I don't know but be careful and do a lot of research on a good outfitter. I have heard good things and bad things about Hadley Creek Outfitters but their website shows proof of what they are killing. Periodically check there website and you will see the updates as the season gets under way. A good friend is going to Illinois for ten days which he is bow hunting and gun hunting combo. He is using Triple T outfitters. Good luck in your research and I will let you know how he makes out when he comes back.

on a side note another outfitter that does hunts a little ways from them ran out of time setting stands before the season. tyler ran over there and hung stands for the outfitter. class act, setting stands for your compatition.

Not Illinois or Ohia - but if you want to go a little farther to Missouri - take a look at J&S Trophy Hunts - jstrophyhunts.com. These guys will get you on deer. Most bow hunting is from hang on stands but they can do some ground blinds and shooting houses if your dad is not able to hunt from hang on stands. Another fun hunt they offer that might be good for your dad is down in Texas - this is more a rifle hunt but is done out of nice shooting houses. You will see allot of deer and many bucks down there. They have some very large deer there but overall it is just a fun hunt with allot of deer to pick from in Texas. They do take some booners in Missouri though with both bow and gun

My brother and his friends have been using this outfitter in Illinois since their first hunt in 2001. They repeat a trip each year now based on their previous success. Tom Ware who runs the place is a nice guy too. http://www.bucksbeware.com/

I'd consider pretty much anywhere that isn't to expensive...Tryign to keep it around 3 grand for the outfitter. A friend is going to kansas this year and is gonna let me know how they are. Just want him to be able to get a nice buck.
