If you're looking for something planted late season as a "kill.. aka harvest" plot, I would recommend something with brassica for late seaon. They grow well and if you have high deer density, in my area they get absolutely hammered. Unfortunately last year they obliterated them prior to October. They grow pretty vigorously in decent soil with maybe 1 high dose of nitrogen rich fertilizer...but they may not be the most pallatable thing in an area with a low deer density...something to keep in mind...

last year I did a post with pics of both a clover plot and a brassica plot... but the pictures got nuked with myfishpix.com. The clover is in it's third season now. a great draw but it requires alot of maintenance. I'll probably have to rotate it by next season. The brassica are an annual planting....nuke it NOW with glyphosate (aka roundup) which can be purchased alot cheaper in its generic form at any ag. or tractor supply store. Get a decent kill and till or plow prior August 1...roundup again on the day of planting around August 15 to eliminate recently germinated grasses. Pray for rain and you will have a decent stand by early archery. Fertilize once before a rain in Early september with urea or another high nitrogen fert RIGHT (important) before a rain and watch it go...

Or simply throw seed down and pray.... Many do. You will get out of it what you put into it. That much I can assure you.
