I have looked into them in the past and didn't purchase for a couple reasons and I know I'll hear it on this one ..... #1 you have to have enough space to store the pellets in a dry place ie. garage/shed not a deck #2 It runs on electric for both blower and auger which means will not work in power outage and cost money to run beside the pellets # 3 the price of pellets are climbing as people try to find fuel alternatives and # 4 in NJ pellets are hard to come by so I would have to go to PA to buy and have them delivered ??? More $$$ for delivery so your not really saving . Plus my friend bought one and swore by it , 2 weeks later he was having combustion problems went to dealer he said pellets were damp or not the right quality for his stove he bought them from Lowes .That's my 2 cents hope this helps , by the way I purchase a Hearth Stone Wood stove old school I guess .

My g/f's parents have one. To make it cheaper they have some corners that they cut. At the very end of winter Wal-Mart puts all of their pellets on clearence, well thats when they stock up. Also, they mix pellets with corn. The corn is cheaper than the pellets. It burns almost as good as the pellets do. But, I'll tell ya, you can't beat a wood stove. Those things are so comfortable, only takes wood, puts me right to sleep if I'm next to it. I'm gonna try and put several one in my home someday.

I have one that I installed 2 seasons ago. LOVE it
I bought 2 pallets last yr one cost 250 the other 210 for a ton.
Definitely worth it in my eyes and wallet
And I am actually thinking about a generator for my house so just in case we loose power I still have heat.

I have a Pellet stove and no doubt saved me a ton of money. My gas/electric bills dropped more than 50% with the pellet stove. My kids have allergies and the we fear the extra dust might be harmful for her. It isnt as if it creates a ton of dust just feel we have no need to cause any additional. It is an Englander Stove model 25PDVC. I have the tile it sits on the pipes and probably 20+ bags of pellets. Email me if you might be interested.

Like I said the cost of pellets have risen and then you have to rely on someone to manufacture something to have heat. Then you add the cost of a generator another $1000-3500 :eek: Just my opinion and we all know what opinions are like ..... everyone's got one . Wish you Luck !!!!!

I have a wood burning insert for my fireplace. Love it would not trade it for the world.. I get the wood for free from friends and craigslist. I burn about 4 cords of wood for a season. I supplement my wood with oil heat. I have a 3 bedroom rancher and the stove keeps the entire house hot. I have not bought oil in three years. I average 150 gal. of oil useage a year.
Just have to have the room to store 4 cords of wood.. If I was to buy the wood at 140 a cord split and delivered $560.00, for wood and 450.00 for oil is still less than $2000.00 for two tanks of oil to heat the house for the winter season, and I beleive my neighbor said he uses 3 tanks a season....

Here is the link for the stove. I can take pictures if you want. It is in real good condition. It does have auto light that worked initially and than it stopped. I used the gel to start it but from looking at the owners manual it appears pretty easy to repair or replace. Actually the Englander company is a do it yourself company and they have tons of instructions and troubleshooting on their site. I will give you the fireplace tools I have as well as a small metal can for the ashes. I have to count the bags of pellets but I am certain I have over 20 bags. I want $1000 for it all.
Keep in mind this stove is REALLY heavy so if you want to buy it bring a truck that can fit 20+ bags of pellets the stove and accessories.

Actually The purchase of the generator would be just to have 1.
The one I would purchase would be no where near that much.
I have a fireplace too and enjoy it.

I would have loved to put a wood stove in my basement actually
However the cost of installation and parts would have been HUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGEEEEEE, as I needed a 30 ft+ chimney/ pipe.

I had same problem and went with a Natural Gas Stove same principle but never liked it . Does do a good job of heating family room but always the cost of gas . I finally put the wood stove upstairs so install was thru roof and straight foward . The gas is nice no mess or clean up but nothing is better than the smell or warmth of wood . The gas , a direct vent is made by Jutul and the wood stove a Hearh Stone Stove .

As followup.............
I remember when I bought my stove from lowes, I had the concern about supply of pellets . The salesman gave the speech of how a number of places where opening to provide pellets in the future
I need to pick up a ton of pellets, called Lowes. O we are out, no idea when they are expected as there is a shortage of them
and when they do come in they are at 300 a ton, dang. Good thing gas is cheaper right now, so they cant use that as a excuse,
I still love my my pellet stove, you just set it for the night and your done.

Shakey I got 2 tons sitting in the garage.Got one ton free when I bought the stove and bought one ton @325/ton .The place I bought my stove is called Gas Works in Malvern,Pa they have a chit load of pellets but I know some of them are spoken for. They must have 10 tons sitting there. They are getting more in a few weeks.
By the way the pellet stove works pretty darn good.We have not had too bad of a fall so the stove hasn't got a work out yet but I can tell you our Gas heat has not been on at all this year.
Up near my cabin in a town called Belleville there is a big logging company that sells pellets. On my way to deer week I am going to stop in there to see what they got. Gas Works said that the reason for such a high price was the transportation I will see what they cost right from the mill.
I will let you know

Well hopefully with the new shipments it should be cheaper.
Most places near me are out, all waiting on the manufacturer

As far as the stoves themselves go, Now is prob a bad time to get them.
When I purchased mine it was actually before the season and on clearance. I picked mine up for under 500 bucks. Now the same one is almost 1700
Good luck on the stove.

UPDATE
after calling around enough there is definitely a shortage of pellets.
I have been able to find some pine.
I was told that there are the manufacturing capabilities right now but there saying the shortage of materials is due to the housing slowness.
I guess lumber yards are slow, so no sawdust which means no dust for the pellets......
the only thing that really makes sense so far.

Our Home depot as them too, I dont like the quality.
They are pine pellets, I have observed that you go thru a bag much faster.
I do like Lowes pellets, hard wood.
For now I just buy a few bags until lowes gets theirs in. One smaller co has a ton of hard pellets for 365 ton.
I am a bit away from fraser unfortunately. Thanks for the info.

Sams Wholesale has been getting them in pretty regular. I bought a ton there the other day and they said a guy came and took a full tractor trailer load from them and paid retail.

I was at depot again, as it turns out they have more pellets then before and now they are hardwoods
what is bogus is no one is selling them cheaper by the ton, all the same price.
So instead of me playing with a ton, I just pick up some.
LOL right now my space for firewood is PACKED so I dont have the extra room to store :)
