um....no. No grouse or quail unless they have been stocked. Im sure there are grouse somewhere...the reality is I havent flushed a grouse in NJ in the last 3 years and I hunt ALOT. You can def get into flights or migrating woodcock. Pheasant and Quail stockings start soon....

check the regs before you go training your dog .... good fine if you train during times your not allowed....

The Division of Fish and Wildlife supports the proper use of dogs while hunting for designated game species. Dog Training Areas areas are maintained on 12 Wildlife Management Areas (http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/wmaland.htm) for public use. Below are regulations regarding the use of dogs on WMAs.
A person may exercise or train dogs in designated dog training areas from May 1 to August 31 inclusive, only on the following select WMAs: 1. Assunpink 4. Colliers Mills 7. Manasquan 10. Stafford Forge 2. Black River 5. Glassboro 8. Millville 11. Tuckahoe 3. Clinton 6. Hainesville (water dogs only) 9. Pequest 12. Whittingham (2 areas: upland and water dog)
http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/images/dogpoint.jpg All dogs must be properly licensed. A person may exercise or train dogs on any WMA from September 1 to April 30. There shall be no exercising or training of dogs on any WMA on the Friday before the opening day of the regular small game season.
Additional regulations (see NJAC 7:25-2:20 below) involve the release of game birds for training, the use of pigeons, the use of firearms, frozen game birds, the use of call back pens and the release of foxes, raccoons, rabbits and hares.

I agree with Massbaster. The WMA public lands are available and your best bet and some also have dog training areas. If at all possible, try weekdays with a young pup once pheasant & quail open....less congested. As for grouse in NJ, those areas are pretty coveted amongst NJ hunters. I see grouse in Sussex County, but they are few and far between and you could walk an entire day up and down mountains without seeing a thing sometimes.

I am originally from Warren County (Northwest NJ). The grouse in that region are plentiful if you can find the right habitat. I used to see them in the hilly areas where there was more underbrush and small saplings. However, I never hunted public land up there and can not say if there are any left on the WMAs.

I would have to agree with Bird Boy... Peaslee WMA would be your ticket...

there is wild grouse and quail in south jersey.they are in an unstocked zone.i ran into them a while back bow hunting.i've seen some every year since.it seems it's seasonal or i just can't find them after awhile.the first 2 weeks of pheasant season is when i see them.
