View Full Version : Longrifles and Flint
I just had to mention.... I called my craftsman and discussed my next rifle. It is now "ordered" cash down.
The American Longrifle, again. These are truly works of art these days, but generally made the same way they did in the 17th and 18th century. Even a baseline flintlock from my West Virginia firend will cost big, but well worth the price. Takes a year to deliver.
Lancaster school, Flintlock, .50 cal. light carving and wire, and four inlays, L & R lock and single trigger, Getz barrel.
This is a traditional rifle. no scope, no bolt action primer capper, no pellets- just patched round ball and powder.

Sounds nice. Post pics when you get it.
Hey Setteman...yes I will. Only wish in my dreams it was now. But it takes a year. I had one made by this man 12 years ago, but unfortunately sold it to make settlement. They are expensive but a good investment in terms of beauty, history, and function. And if you have a friend of similar bent and you both partake of that late season hunt- well, it's a special time amd memory.

IMR,
A fellow I know has had a gun or two turned out by this fellow. He sent me the link to his webiste and he makes some pretty nice hardware from what I can see:

check out Allan Sandy either by .com or Scarlet Scarab. Very High Quality. But you only get what you pay for.
A blend of tradition and techno. We had a nice conversation on bullets and barrels. And I requested this new barrel on the new flintlock. Fairly short at 34 inches but well balanced for me. And there will be an ( ugh, you say ) small fiber-optic front sight. I wasn't too sure about this because it's a big change from tradition. But after walking his rifle around a bit I found mt older eyes like the idea. After all, this is to be an actua hunting rifle, not just a club gun that looks good. Ther rear sight will also be set forward a bit- about 12 inches from the breach. So the sight picture look like it will work out well. Now the barrel- 34 inched, swamped, and twist is 1:28 - - for sabot / bullet. Allan documents very good accuracy over round balls and good velocity for sure shots at 100-125 yds.
