I'm going to montana to hunt elk and mule/whitetail deer in november. I think i'm going to fly because it is such a long drive. Does anybody have any advice on the best way to get the antlers and meet home. I will be flying from phila. to spokane wash.
Thanks

I would look into shipping your antlers home if possible. I have been going to South Dakota pheasant hunting for about 8 yrs or so and I have shipped pheasants back home and also have brought them back with me in another piece of checked luggage. Shipping them was by far the best.
During one trip I had my metal gun case arrive with a large dent and was even pierced in one spot. Imagine what that flight would have done to a nice set of antlers that you worked so hard to get. At least with shipping you can control how they would be packaged with padding, etc. Every airline has different restrictions concerning firearms, bows, ammunition, transporting of antlers, etc make sure you look over there web site info. If you have not purchased your tickets already make sure to look over that info for the different airlines, sometimes that may decide who you would like to fly with I know it did for me. Are you hunting by yourself ?, gun or bow ?

Also, make sure you check the web site for the airport security because what restrictions they have are not always the same as the airlines requirements, we found that out the hard way one year.

Silver Belly do you use an outfitter for your South dakota or do you DIY? I have a few buddies who keep talking about going.

String Music we stay with a local farmer who takes in hunters once the season starts. If you have never hunted real wild pheasants before it's a blast. If you have a good bunch of guy's who like to hunt hard and don't mind wearing out some leather on your boots you will have some fun. We don't use dog's since we usually have 5-8 guy's in our group. We usually walk/block like you may have seen on espn, versus, etc and our goal is to cover as much ground as we can since usually we can't start hunting until 10:00 am. Some of the big lodges are crazy for what they charge and most of them are also hosting people from big companies etc. No matter what type of hunting you may do I think everyone should be able to experience hunting for wild roosters in that biiiiiiiiiiig open country before they die

A lot of people ship their horns and hunting gear back home and fly back with their deboned meat in a cooler.
