I've talked to Orin from www.bountyhunterguideservice (http://www.bountyhunterguideservice) at the Harrisburg show about moose hunting. He sounds like the real deal, might be a possibilityfor you to check out.

Me and a bunch of guys go up to Portage Lake and hnt with Hunters Point Guide Service. He specializes in archery hunts. Lots of bears up there.

I have no specific area set at the moment. I used to hunt in the Rangeley/Oquossoc area for over 15 yrs for deer and the ones that do bear hunts in that area seem like they do not have the greatest track record. All the info I have been able to come up with so far regarding harvest info, etc seems to be pointing me to the areas in and around Aroostook County.

I have deer hunted the North Maine Woods (NMW) every year since 1983 except last year. I hunt from Allagash, ME about 12 miles from the recommended guide service. The NMW is 60% larger than Yellowstone National Park.

This is my recommendation for a Maine Bear outfitter/guide:
http://allagashwildernesscamps.com/ (http://allagashwildernesscamps.com/)

From my home in Absecon (outside Atlantic City), NJ it is 400 miles to the Maine border. St. Francis is another 400 miles from the border. It takes about 13 hours to drive. Follow the directions provided by the above camp. All roads are first class.

Non-resident big game hunting license = $114
Bear hunting permit = $74

I always hunted from Gardners Sporting Camps in Allagash, ME. Never was at East Lake. During the November firearm deer season following snow, the bears mostly were in their dens.

It's Tylor Kelly's Camps. Wade is his father who started the business. They have a restaurant called Two Rivers Lunch. Their WEB: http://allagashhunting.com/index.php/two-rivers-lunch

Here is the Maine 2009 bear harvest information. Note that Aroostook county's bear harvest increased over 2008's harvest that I posted above.
