there just starting here in eastern ocean county.... found some rubs and scrapes near my stands!!!!!! I think the rut is getting later and later every year as our climate changes.... Last year i shot a 8 pointer with the muzzleloader that was chasing a doe in feb!! when you see a fawn with spots this time of year you can gaurantee she became prego in feb!

He sure is...I have a couple of nice 8's and a 7 on trail cam...only early in the year they were on trail cam in daylight...Now its strictly nights...Until the rut...Look out...I have moved my cameras from my inactive bait piles to open scrapes...I know I will catch some decent bucks on camera now...As the season goes on I will see what is really out there...If you dont own a trail camera your missing out...

I got one spot thats rubs all to hell. I found 3 large scrapes with huge tracks in them too. My other spot I can't find a rub for the life of me. I know their out of velvet here cause we see them spotlighting, but just can't find any rubs. I'm sure their around, but just haven't noticed them. In a week or two I bet I'll be seeing tons of rubs there.

Yes it does but not as aggressive as it the rubs are now...I saw no rubs when the velvet off process was taking place.....these rubs were done after the velvet was off...they are all over right now along with car hood sized scrapes....

Quinton,
I hear ya! I have one spot that is exactly like yours. Huge rubs all over. I found 3 huge (year car hood size) scrapes about 30yds from the rubs. Now a situation like this you must tread carefully. I'm only checking this area every now and then and most of the time I'm doing it with bino's from a distance. You don't want that buck to know that your there too. All this sign is telling you that their is a very dominate buck very close by. I'm thinking at my place that his bedding area must be super close by due to all the territory marking he's doing. My circumstance is this wood lot is only about 6-8 acres big. It is surrounded by fields. On the right hand side of the woods their are 2 very thick headge rows that run into the wood lot that I hunt. The top headge row is thick and they love bedding in there. I'm thinking he's bedding there. Right now I'm just waiting for the consistent colder temps to get him up and moving more. Since this place is surrounded by fields I can't hunt this place in the morning. The deer are out in the fields in the morning and if i try to move in there in the morning I'll for sure spook every deer out of that area. With it being like that I only hunt it in the afternoon. I move in when they are bedding and setup before they get up and start moving. So your very close to his bedding area. Just becareful with your scent and noise. Good luck man!!!!!!

I haven't seen many rubs while walking so far, however Saturday afternoon I did see a small buck tearing up a tree.

Yeah, things are different year after year. I had a small 4pt chasing a doe and grunting the other night. He even tried to get up and ride her back until she punched his lights out with her front holves. Earliest I have seen this activity in about 10 to 12 years. May just be a young buck with alot of testorin, or a young doe starting a little early. Rubs in scrapes all over in my woods.
