Woke up this morning in Sullivan County to 34 degrees. It feels good to step out in the woods with some nice crisp weather. Odd thing is, the deer didn't start moving until about 4:00pm
Oh well, it was nice. :)

Saw 9 does and 5 turkeys in the afternoon. Missed a big doe. String hit my jacket. Saw a 5 point buck on my way out. Not a buck worth ending my season with. Saw 13 deer on the way in the night before. The 5 point was one of them and a bigger buck that was just inside the woods and we couldn't make out what he had on top. Not a lot of buck sightings yet. Probably around Halloween they'll start surfacing.

yeah I saw on the news 35 was the low for today. Now all we need is the foilage to turn and fall. I hope we don't pay for these nice cold temp later in the season.

We even had a frost this morning. I wonder if that will have any effect on the trees turning. I know the trees turning is only according to the amount of daylight decreasing, but come on a frost this early has gotta do something to help speed it up.

I think it's mostly dependent on amount of daylight but amount of rain can play a part. Early frost might make them drop quicker.

Yeah Barnes,
I am almost positive that it is the amount of daylight. I was just wondering if the frost or the lil less rain we've been having will speed it up at all? I have 2 sycamores in my front and both of them are about 70% dropped already. I know that when they do start to drop and turn heavy I pray for a big storm to come through. All that extra weight on the leaves (water) makes them easier to drop, plus all the wind blows them off too. We got any forestry guys on the barn that could help us out on this one????????????

It's been unusually cold overnight here in s. jersey also. It seems like it is making the acorns fall much quicker than other years:huh: I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

Where I'm at in cenral NJ leaves still holdin on , but your right about acorns their dropping . I was out with my dad saturday a missed a doe about 35 yards out early am about 7:20 am on State Land she came in all spooked already and on high alert I was in ground blind and laid out some deer cane two days prior seems she smelled that and was curious but spooked at the same time . Any way season's still early GOOD LUCK

I like the cooler weather, do you guys get chiggers? They are a problem here before a frost.
