PA Opening Day Report

Saw 13 deer in a nearby orchard on our way in on Friday night so had high hopes. This is Sullivan County (3B) by the way. Went out in the morning and hunted my tree stand that i set up for rifle. Nothing. Did a little hunting and scouting until lunch. Tons and tons of grouse. Went out in the afternoon and saw 9. Passed three up at 5 yards because I was only about 75 yards from the road. Didn't want them running the wrong way. Then I saw three more bedded in a hayfield but couldn't approach them - no cover. Hunted the woods behind the field trying to intercept deer coming to the field. Had three doe come by at 5:00. One was a real big one. She stopped broad side in the logging road I was next to. Bow string slapped my sleave and the arrow went about 4 feet low and in the dirt. :( The deer skipped town. Saw another 4 in the field on my way back to my vehicle. Too open to try a stalk. Pretty nice action and I'm not disappointed to still have my tag on October 4th.

Only saw two buck. One scrap rack 5-point and a nice one that wouldn't show himself enough for a point count.

Also found a nice shed from an 8 pointer. Nice and heavy. Down side is it's pretty badly chewed. Upside is what was probably a 110" last year survived hunting season and is probably a 130" this year. :thup:

Oh by the way! My Opening day consisted of, Going down to Roxborough and painting Six Ceilings! Oh Boy What a feeling! I must be:nuts:

Hey WADD: Where is the Dirty Dozen camp you are talking about? I belong to the Dirty Dozen Camp in McKean County. Been there since 1968.

This Dirty Dozen is near Dushore in Sullivan County.

Yeah Man! In sullivan county! and it is the Dirty Dozen +1! I was Lucky enough to grow up Hunting with most of the original members! I remember
Slinging 6 Arrows at 2 Deer on top of that mountain when I was about 14
Hitting trees, the ground, every thing but the Deer that stood there and watched me climb out of the tree! When I got back to the cabin! I went into the kitchen to tell my story,and that I couldnt hunt in the morning,when one of the original members Who Was Dom Connicelli! Got up from the poker table,went to his bunk and gave me another six arrows,and told me to bring back a Deer in the Morning! When I got up the poker game was still going, I went hunting, Came back with a Small Doe,
And all the guys were so hung over,but they still got up and cogradulated me! Wow! Thirty Years ago! My Dad And Those Guys Gave Me alot of Great Memories! Thanks Guys!:fight:

I new him before he was the car man! My Dad got me one of his dogs! An english setter! what a Great Dog! I had him trained to Hand signals! then I had to Give Him Away! I was 17 and living under someones Rules!:mad: I guess thats why Im the Way I am! If I get An ultamatum I Do exsactly what they dont want!:D :fight:
