I've heard nothing but good stuff about Deerfield. They have an excellent reputation.

I hunted at Roblyn's Neck Trophy Club several years ago and thought it was excellent. I'm not sure how it is now, but they are definately worth checking out. They only take a handful of hunters per week on a massive property.

STAY AWAY FROM BOSTICK PLANTATION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well........I've done a fair number of guided hunts and I can tell you hands down that this is the worst outfit I have ever dealt with.

For starters, they run way too many hunters. When I went there were over 50 hunters in camp, and it was early season well before they get busy. My ex wife and I were archery hunting along with 6 other people. The remaining hunters were all gun hunters. They claim to have around 1,000 or 1,500 acres set aside for archery only. Out of the 8 people archery hunting that week only one had a shot opportunity. When he shot, all 8 of us heard the BOW shot and the deer snorting afterwards. They had all 8 of us hunting the same 100 acre block of woods for the whole hunt. They never rotated stands or anything. In 3 days of hunting I saw deer twice, a family group of does and a spike with horns barely visible above the hair line. My ex wife hunted 3 days with zero sightings. The head guide criticized me for not shooting the spike which may not have even been legal. They do allow archers to take spike and cow horns as a cull, but I don't think the deer had the 3 inches required by law. The guide said "I'm not carrying a micrometer." He later told my ex wife that it was her own fault that she wasn't seeing deer because she was moving and making too much noise in the stand. He wasn't sitting in the stand with her so I don't know how he came to that conclusion. Not to mention that she was an experienced hunter who had no problems seeing deer at home. One day around lunch time I noticed he was loading corn into his truck to make a baiting run. I asked if I could ride along so I could see the rest of the property. He told me no, because the deer were used to his scent and my riding along might throw off their pattern. Keep in mind that they drive the hunters right to the base of the tree for every hunt. The reality is that he was going to bait his honeyholes that are reserved for special guests and didn't want me to see that. I have been on a lot of guided hunts and usually the guides enjoy giving clients a tour of the property. One day we were eating lunch and had the great pleasure of sharing the table with owner Joe Bostick. He was obviously sloshed and proceeded to tell my ex wife and I a number of off color stories......mostly about his problems with infidelity. Probably not appropriate subject matter for mixed company. Besides that, the food sucked and the accomodations not the greatest. Everything was clean, but for the money I have seen much better. This leads me to one of my biggest criticisms.........

They offer premium accomodations in the mansion house for an extra fee that is several hundred dollars per day. Out of roughly 50 hunters in camp there were only about 5 deer taken. All by guests in the mansion house.........those seceret honey holes the head guide was baiting were reserved for them. If your willing to pay extra you will be succesful.

If you still have doubts, check out some of the outfitter reviews on the web or try posting your questions on some other message boards. Everything I've seen about them has been negative.......wish I would have researched more before I booked with them. From what I hear, a lot of southern lodges are the same.

If I were to go to SC again I would probably go back to Roblyn's Neck. It was one of the best hunts I've been on. I saw tons of deer, accomodations and food were great, only a handful of hunters in camp, curteous staff, and everyone in camp took at least one animal on their 3 day hunt. It has been several years, and I know these places sometimes go down hill. If they are anything like they were a few years ago you will be pleased.

Deerfield also has a great rep..........I have heard positive things about them over and over again.....certainly worth considering.
