Permenone for preventative and NIX to relieve itching. NIX I think is for lice and is bought over the counter drug store. Works good for me. The other thing is clear nail polish over the bite. It suffocates them or something.

The best defense is to not get um. What I found that works great is a set of Rhino Skinz.Basically long under wear very similar to pantie hose. They are lite ,cool and come in tops and bottoms. I have had maybe 6 chigger bites in 10 years wearing them.I also wear a pair of brush pants from Cabela's that has the calf guard basically a internal cuff that rides up your leg. I also wear a buzz-off jacket and pants. One year bow hunting it was so hot I only wore the Rhino's and the Buzz Off.Cool as a Clam.
I am sold.No bites,No Stinkin Spray's to ward of deer while bow hunting.
As to answer question

Chiggers DO NOT burry themselfs into your flesh. They secreat a saliva that breaks down your skin. They then suck the slurry in.Its that salivia that gives the nasty sores and itching because it continues to work a bit long after the chigger is dead.
Nail Polish will not kill the chiggers they are already dead on the first scratch. They are a very soft bodied creature.
Nail Polish Remover for the itch NOPE.Its the acatone that burns no chit the itch will go away because it will burn like hell.

There is a similiar post in the Deer Hunting Forum.
I have had my share of chiggers, especially when scouting prior to bow season in southern NJ. Since I started spraying my boots and clothes with Coulston's Duranon Tick repellent I have eliminated the problem. One application to your clothes lasts about 2 weeks. Available at most hunting/archery shops. It comes in a spray can with a yellow label and a green cap.
If you are unlucky to get chiggers, the best and quickest relief is to visit your doctor to get a prescription that will solve your problem in 2 to 3 days. Try someone's home remedy and you will suffer for 2 to 3 weeks.

I agree, Coulston's Duranon Tick Repellent.
I havent had a tick or chiggers since I started using this stuff years ago.
But if I do get them, I use Asorbine Jr.
I will scratch the bite open each night and dab it with the Asorbine Jr, it will sting a little but the itch goes away.

I have found using the green rubbing alcohol (1 bottle) to a very hot soaking bath then rub on affected areas straight, will relieve the itches. BTW Ron great site:bow:

Spray down good before going into the woods, make sure all your cuffs are tucked. As soon as you get home, strip down and jump into the shower. If you are scouting with a buddy, let your buddy lead the way through the woods,he will save you from getting a load of chiggers. They love those blueberry bushes. Me and slow motion use to say the blueberry bushes were vibrating with chiggers just waiting for us to step into the woods. And don't go home and give them to your wife, she will not be a happy camper. Also, let your toenails grow before the season so you have something to dig into your ankles with. Just be prepared for the 2 week itch.

Most importantly!!!!!!!!!!! take all your clothes off before you get back into the vehicle and before you get home...you will transfer these lil critters to your fabric and into the house!!!!!!!!!! fun for the whole family......ha ha...

I put down paper on the deck, brush off all I can take them in and put them in Mother in laws bed, told her the house is infested with something, have her almost driven out.!!

Oh my god. I had no Idea they were that bad down south. We only have to worry about the ticks up north. Anyone know why they dont make it up north or where they end in NJ. And is it this bad every year or are there worse years? Man, these things sound like a nightmare..

Yeah Drenalin tell me about it. I feel pritty lucky to be here in SE Pa where I've never even seen on. Even on the deer that I get. I even butcher my own deer and still over the years haven't seen any on deer from this area. I used to go up to Bradford Co. a lot during rifle season (only gone up a few times these past serveral years due to college) and I've only see a few on deer from up there. I went to college in SW Pa, Washington County. With all the deer we've gotten around there I've only seen a couple on the deer we've butchered. Why are they so bad in S NJ??

Chiggers are in areas with sandy soil. I hunted PA and didn't know what chiggers were until I moved to NJ 20 years ago. The first time I went scouting I didn't spray myself or take any precautions. I was TOTALLY covered in them, and I mean everywhere. I'm glad skin grows back because I scratched for weeks. I just laugh when people complain about ticks. I'll deal with them anytime before dealing with chiggers.

i just cant hunt this time of year unless it is cooler then usaul. from what ive been toled i have an allergic reaction to them when they bite me. some guys are some arent all in your body make up:thdown: . been a while since ive had them and hope i never get bit again. ive suffered for weeks with all the remedies recommended. my doctor didnt know what i was talking about gave me a prescrip for some lice cream years ago. didnt do a thing for the itching and was probably useless since they were old bites. probably some kind of shot you could get by now, there is a better understanding of what a chigger does to you. good luck and see a doctor.

I know this may sound a little weird, but this info came from my doctor who also use to be special forces. Eat a paper match head every day. Just one. The sulfur in it will keep the chiggers off. I thought he was crazy but it works. But don't stop spraying down. Anything with permanone will work.
