i use 15 screw in steps for my hang on's.
i remove every step, every time.
i also lock the stand.

never had one stolen, public or private land.

i've lost ladder stands, but never my hang on's

I have found out if someboby wants your stand bad enough they will get it. I had two loggy bayou stands chained to the trees a half a mile off the road and someone carried a bolt cutter in and got both of them.

I've heard of stands stolen with a wide array of techniques and contraptions devoted to stopping it from happening. Bottom line seems to be if somebody wants it, they will get it.

never better

Use a stand cheap enough that you won't be crying if it dissapears. I buy my hang-ons on sale @ Dick's , then use a coupon with them on top of that, bottom line, I got 6 last year for $20 each. I think the same stand is on sale this year for $10 more- $40 instead of $30, so it's ten less than that if you have a coupon. I also use sky hook bolts to climb the tree and bolt the stand into the tree with a lag bolt and then use a lock. If someone wants that stand bad enough to go through all that, they need it more than me.

Yeah I got three really cheap hang on's from next door during yardsale. I got all three for 20 bucks. I remove all my steps before leaving. This is the first year in a LONG time I'm trying not to use my climber a lot. I'm just tired of carrying it in and out. I think it's just as much effort screwing in the steps as I go up, but I don't have to carry that climber anymore. And if they steal em only $20 loss. I'll find em and give em a piece of my mind.

Awww lol thats a lil harsh. But hey they shouldn't be trying to climb up it anyway. Either to sit in it or to steal it.
