They're all different so gender doesn't really matter. You could get a very soft, unmotivated male just as quick as a bitchy, dominant female.

Having done both I prefer a male but that is more than likely because I have a bitchy female and a very tractable male LOL...

i agree with darren , dogs like poeple have different personality's, we have a female chessie ,the breeder we got her from says his males are stubborn and hard headed at times , our female has been great easy and to train but with no other dogs around her she thinks she's human

what kind of dog are you lookin for

and definately agree with ol20 on the 2 legged females

I try not to pick between male or female. I go in and watch the litter interact with one another. Then choose the dog that matches my style. You just got to figure out what you want out of a dog and what it looks like with the pups interacting.
As far as the two legged females, I won't tollerate bitchy, that's why you got to keep you "Pimp Hand" Strong!:fight:

Its all in the handler, any dog will test you and it's up to you to control it and if you can't move off the dog no matter how much it hurts. Females are my choice rather than a regulair honery males. I guess you could crank up the voltage like a lot do. I don't collar my dogs they are naturals. I now have a Ryman female thats nearly human.

if you want to hunt rabits mainly then a begal is good, but if your looking to do waterfowl/upland bird, go with a lab. or if your just looking to go upland bird then stick with a pointer i personally love brittanies

It all depends on what you are doing? The bird dog comes in many different styles the fast ones ( points ger, engl, short and long they are fast and cover a lot of ground and some can be diff to train some not ) Then you have the best in my mind the britt . They have a good disposition, work close and covers ground easy to handle all around the best!!! They point, flush, retrieve and just love to be with you.

Whao!!!! Bird Boy! Let me school you young man, GSP's do it all. The Steady Point dogs, will point, retrieve, run bunnies, do water retrieves and blood trail deer.

As far as running big that is a handler/trainer problem. You can teach a GSP (or any pointing breed) to hunt close or big. If there is any question to this you just need to ask those guys that have hunted with our service, both paying customers and friends on the Barn Alike.

i have seen russes gsp run a rabbit, the first time it was quite commical to me, it acted just like a hound it barked and ran the rabbit just like a houde... it was only funny to me cuz i had never seen it... steady point dogs are the true definition of a versitile dog they do it all! you can train dogs to do what ever you want it may take a little longer if its against natural instinct but i have a setter that will water rerieve, i dont practice it a lot because i am primarily a upland guy but he has helped me with ducks and geese in a pinch! as for the original question female or male IMO it dont mattter they all train... only thing is males tend to have them male traits my dog will mark anything incuding your foot (only happened once) he learned not to do that after the first time lol.

As far as running big that is a handler/trainer problem. You can teach a GSP (or any pointing breed) to hunt close or bigActually running big or staying close is part of the dogs genetics .Its bread into them .So no training needed if you just research the breed you will know if that dog runs big before its even born
