Damn, even though that was a horrible way to go, he sure lived a long life! I've never heard of a lab growing that old! Crazy. People are effed up. I've seen my dog hit too but luckily he rolled under it and was fine. Other friends, not so lucky. :(
What kind of hunting are doing the most? Waterfowl? Upland? etc.
If you're doing waterfowl, I'd recommend a chocolate or chesapeake.
Upland, I'd definintely go a brittany spaniel or german short-haired.

Sorry Bambam...labs are GREAT dogs. Hope you find a new best friend soon but none will ever replace that 18 year old friend in your heart.

sorry bam. chesapeaks are great if you don't have little kids. males are harder to train and are temperamental. females are a little easier but not much. but they are all heart and great companions.

Sorry to hear that bud.
Labs - Black labs rule.
For your age, a beagle would be great, but not much bunny ground around here for you to run it.
When you decide what you want let me know, I might be able to help you out

I would go lab all the way. I have a 3 yr old black lab and she is great. She is an average hunter but she is the best companion you can ask for. Always looking to please and always willing to learn and train.

Sorry to hear about your buddy. My yellow is almost 13,labs are great dogs. Most dogs can scratch hardwood floors if the run on it and are of any size.Take your time, you will find the right one.

We have two big labs in the house. We put down area rugs over the hardwood floor to minimize the scratching but its inevitable. They'll still scratch it up a bit. And about shedding, there's only one solution. Brush them alot outside, once or twice a day and you just gotta vacuum alot LOL We deal with it here..

Sorry about your loss. It is always hard to lose a great companion. If I were you, I would go for a beagle. I have never had a lab but have had Brittanies, English setters and beagles. The beagles were my favorites.

Sorry about your loss! Was that 18 years a typo? What a long lived lab! I'd get another lab from good hunting stock, I'm partial to chocolates...or 2nd choice would be a GSP. If you get a lab you've got an all around hunting dog...as well as an awesome family dog

My condolences. Hang in there. 18 years was a good long life. Be thankful he shared so much and for so long with you.

Sorry to hear about your lab.I have two of them .One will turn 13 next week. When she goes I'll be a basket case.My wife thinks I'm nuts ,but I'm going to have her cremated and buried with me. It's something how attached you can get to them.I can not understand why someone can hit a person pet and not try to let them know what had happened. It's just not right.
